Dehumidifying Techniques

Ahoy ICMag!

Couple questions that I hope helps everyone.

1. Is there a natural or passive way to dehumidify a grow room say for example 5x5x8?

Read about Rock Salts, most are for snow removal, anyone have experience with this?

stumbled upon "Damp-Rid" a commercial product used to dehumidify closets, under sinks, not large places smaller ones.

2. Is baking soda any good? Can it remove moisture and odor? Or is it exactly not what to use in your grow room?

I'm going to start maintaining humidity but am not getting a dehumidifier, period. Energy wasting, noise making space waster.

You can raise the temps in your room if you use silicates in your nutrients but not sure if thats the course of action I want to take.

Any advice, feedback, ideas, everything welcome, lets get this train rollin'!

you can do a certain amount with good air movement including good ventilation. but at a certain point you can't get around a dehumidifier if you want to grow really compact strains till they are fully ripe.

Damp-Rid will help with micro growers, + it helps with smell in small places.

Now is a good time to start looking for dehumidifiers. The larger the unit the longer the motor will work.

Make sure you do your research well.

The first time you get bud rot and ruin a whole crop you will think differently. In my eyes there is one way and that is the right way, if you want to have a good environment you must be prepared to through some money at it. It will help protect your crop and protect your house. It sounds like you are looking for a patch for the problem. Get on craigslist and find a used dehumidifier and be done with it.

Unlike air conditioning, it is OK to buy a larger dehumidifier than what you currently need.
(IIRC from ConsumerReports--please correct if I'm mistaken.)

My A/C has a dehumidifier feature that simultaneously cools. 72% humidity when i came home, 2 hours later down to 60%.

I watered just as the lights turned on today only reason for such high humidity.

So absolutely no option, nothing other than a dehumidifier to get the job done? Unfortunate.

Appreciate the feedback everyone, just thought a smaller space like 5x5x8 didn't need those damned noisy things.
