Decarbing trim in oil???

Criard

New member
Most recipes I've read call for either decarbing the material prior to extraction or decarbing the oil after extracting and filtering out the material.

Can I decarb my trim in the oil either before or after a long low-heat extraction?

I made one batch of coconut oil so far using the following method:

-Grind/break up trim and put into mason jar.
-Fill with melted extra virgin coconut oil to approx. 1 inch above trim.
-Place jar with lid lightly closed in immersion circulator bath @ 150*F
-Keep jar in bath varying temp between 150-175 for a total of at least 12 hours; stirring every 30 min, and once every few hours pulling off heat and letting cool until solid before putting back into bath.
-Strain and decarb oil-jar in oil bath at about 225-250 until decarbing bubbles are where you want them as per GrayWolf's method.

But I thought to myself..."Why can't I decarb the oil and trim together?"
And now I find myself here, my friends, seeking your thoughts and wisdom.

This method (which is heavily based on GrayWolf's method, thank you!) works quite well for the first run. I'm currently working on a second batch of oil; I extracted 1oz of trim for about 16 hours and strained and returned the jar to the water bath with a new oz of trim which has been extracting going on 12 hours now.
Since the trim has broken down a bit and is taking up less space I'm contemplating adding the first oz back into the oil and putting them both in the oil bath to decarb while still in the extracted oil.
Am I making sense or am I rambling....:tumbleweed:
