I took the long drive to tha hills, to visit my garden yesterday...As I was approaching on the highway, about 10 miles away.....The rain turned to severe hail ....The kind that pounded my roof and hood so vigorously, I was worried my truck was gonna look like, the surface of a golf ball....There was a huge pile of hailstones, built up under my windshield wipers where tha glass meets tha hood... .....The stones were small...but they were comming down so hard and thick I couldn't see very far, and had to raise my voice ,to speak to my girlfriend who was in tha passenger seat! ...I was having a hard time keeping my self under controll....I nearly crashed my truck quite a fiew times, in my haste to see what wrath mothernature has brought down on my ladies...(plus that clay is sooooo slippery, when it gets wet!)....Wadda ya expect at 8000 feet in tha desert..
After 30-40 minutes of severe off roading, in the mud...We arrived at the garden...To our supprise....They were still standing!...After a quick prayer....I began to inspect the dammage...Alot of puncture wounds to the fan leaves and a fiew broken branches...but nothing they cant recover from...
Thank God..
Now...I need yer help with designing a tarp style covering system...Because its obvious I lucked out and only got hit with a light hail storm...If anything like what happend to tha truck, happens to them plants...ITS OVER...
I was thinking about mounting a large cammo tarp, with a spool, on one side of the garden, to my chicken wire fence.....Just watch tha weather, and take tha drive(2.5 hours 1 way) when it forecasts rain....an be ready to cover tha garden if tha killer storm comes...I figure these are my only options..
Do any of you guys have hail stories, oppinions or advise for me...Any thing would help..
High Altitude growers please chime in..
THANKS
