Death From Above.....Severe Hail!..

I took the long drive to tha hills, to visit my garden yesterday...As I was approaching on the highway, about 10 miles away.....The rain turned to severe hail :badday: ....The kind that pounded my roof and hood so vigorously, I was worried my truck was gonna look like, the surface of a golf ball....There was a huge pile of hailstones, built up under my windshield wipers where tha glass meets tha hood...:cuss: .....The stones were small...but they were comming down so hard and thick I couldn't see very far, and had to raise my voice ,to speak to my girlfriend who was in tha passenger seat! :yoinks: ...I was having a hard time keeping my self under controll....I nearly crashed my truck quite a fiew times, in my haste to see what wrath mothernature has brought down on my ladies...(plus that clay is sooooo slippery, when it gets wet!)....Wadda ya expect at 8000 feet in tha desert..

After 30-40 minutes of severe off roading, in the mud...We arrived at the garden...To our supprise....They were still standing!:jump:...After a quick prayer....I began to inspect the dammage...Alot of puncture wounds to the fan leaves and a fiew broken branches...but nothing they cant recover from...
Thank God..

Now...I need yer help with designing a tarp style covering system...Because its obvious I lucked out and only got hit with a light hail storm...If anything like what happend to tha truck, happens to them plants...ITS OVER...

I was thinking about mounting a large cammo tarp, with a spool, on one side of the garden, to my chicken wire fence.....Just watch tha weather, and take tha drive(2.5 hours 1 way) when it forecasts rain....an be ready to cover tha garden if tha killer storm comes...I figure these are my only options..

Do any of you guys have hail stories, oppinions or advise for me...Any thing would help..

High Altitude growers please chime in..

THANKS

FP

U think Im crazy....Id love for you to say that shit in my presence.... :bat:

When I said "off roading"...I meant off the paved road....Driving to the vacinity of my grow on a dirt path, checking them, and driving on through is what I do, and have been doing....Its totaly chill...From the parking spot, I hike to the grow....Foot prints are the enemy...Not off roading...

An hey,"G"....The tarps are for protecting from the hail...not blocking the sun....They willl obviously be removed after the storm....U moron!...

Hi Fastpine,
Sorry for the flammin troll Despie. How are you doing other than the hail storms?

I am being threated by hail at this very moment, so I feel your pain. How big are your plants? can a garbage bag fit over them? This might dampen the blows a lil bit.

Waddddddup, SS.

Im OK, Kinda stressed though...As we speak, Im packing up for a 4-5 day stay in the MTNS....Im excited, cause I love the outdoors, camping, fishing and playing with my plants....But in reality..im a cityboy pothead...an the middle of the forrest can wear at me after a fiew days...Expecially if the only work I have to do is sit and watch for the hail to come...Besides tha erb and food in the cooler start to run thin at about 5 days....

I like the trash bag idea...There commin up on my hip, so it mite work...

Wish me luck bro!

2.5 hr drive... what a pain in the ass. As far as how you are going to support these tarps... got 2 trees around you could set an A frame type support up with just p cord and a few rocks. Bat cave might work as well. That only takes 1 tree but it gets really low at one side. Obviously I have no idea what the situation is, but you might be able to set up a little quonset hut type structure that you could tear apart and hide in a bush. Keeping water off of your plants without a greenhouse is a bitch. Dry ice will keep your food longer than plain ice.

Damn...Good advise on the ice...I like the tree idea too...

Thanks..

Any time pal. I know this can be hard work. You should figure out what you are going to do as harvest gets closer. Plan now to minimize paranoia later. I would probably have someone around with night vision and a mean ass dog if it was possible.

Why do you insist on starting shit with folks? The ppl at ICMAG don't like it and won't put up with it long. Don't think you won't be banned.

Not everyone can afford to do it right at this instant. If you were doing it right, you would be growing trees inside where nobody but you could possibly see or smell them. Just my opinion. Less paranoia, more consistant, year around product. Anybody with some numbers that is outside and is serious has guards of some sort, dogs, and *ahem* protection.

Despie...that's not homey talk mi amigo...it's regular blanco americano talk...stop hating already. ese pagina es de amor! (this page is about love). If you're that high up in the desert, do you have to worry about flyovers? A tarp might look really obvious if you're in a really dry area IMO..

I'm in a hail free tropical location...my problem is rain. it's so intense it knocks my seedlings down and i have to pick em up and pack a lil soil around em to give them support...
