Dude the key is you want to be NORTH of the city. Not directly east and not SOUTH. To get privacy and proximity to the beach i think your best bet is Carmel Valley. If you have 800k to 2M to drop then you can get situated in a nice spot in the beach communities of La Jolla, Del Mar, Solana beach, Cardif-by the sea, Encinitas or Carlsbad. Oceanside is out, that where you start sacrificing your privacy and start adding bars to your windows. I think a nice moderate mix is the Carmel Valley area, Rancho Penquestious, Black Mountain, 4S Ranch and Poway.

Good luck man. It is truly the finest city on earth for weather, girls, beaches and high in the running for best growers/pot (which makes the competition tough, but after a few years you'll find all the connections you need.)

hahah so true. I've been checkin out prices on a few places and I'm gonna need 2 lights just to pay rent.

There is no shortage of tasty and cheap Mexican food, Mmmm.

parks are all over, in the more well to do cities theres full size baseball diamonds, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, pools etc.

There are some locales that are very pot friendly, others not so much. I notice the tweakers and vato wannabe's hang out more on the east side of the county so I stick to the beach, if you're in your 20's/30's theres no shortage of trim around.

So if your not in your 20's/30's it all goes away? lol,,,please.

SD is crowded....way too crowded....tweakers are for sure on the beaches and everywhere else....like anywhere else...some of those vato wannabes are not wannabes.....it has a lot to offer....and it ain't all west of the 5. Most flat landers don't venture out past the beach bars....and that is well and good.....thank you.

I'm OB all day long....but I gave it up for a reason. I couldn't find parking anymore.

Yup...it is a big county. Most dudes responding to this thread are beached. Grab a map and look east and north of the 15 for a totally different arena. There are mnts and desert in SD county....and that is about the only place to obtain an acre or 40 anymore. It will cost you...it is not going to be cheap...but it can be had.

Most the peeps that move strictly to the beach are transplants and here to party. Nothing wrong with that...but if you are serious about buying an acre or more....the beach and all those mid inland valleys they mention...are not where you will be looking.

If you want to go to the beach....it is a simple commute....if you want to live on the beach and grow...it sucks dick...crowds, kids, and humidity. If you want to just party and hang out and get laid...yup...the beach will fulfill your needs. I'm happy that most the SD crowd on ICmag are down there and locked into a certain mentality.

Lots of waves....lots of chicks...lots of everything....and way too fucking crowded.

I'm still connected in OB....still hang and catch waves there...but unless you are wealthy and can afford to get out of the war zone and its smell of piss and tweak....ain't no way I buy there. Anyone who tells you different....has not been around the block....and is probably nursing a hangover.

La Jolla, Del Mar, Cardiff by the Sea....hell anywhere on the beaches and especially on the beaches in the North county will not be affordable. They are awesome and expensive....crowded and plastic...yuppified for 30yrs now. Nice to hang out in....nice to surf...but not worth what they want as far as prices. Luckily you can visit and enjoy easily....might have to pay for parking now days though.

Well I just want easy beach access....an easy drive 30 minutes or so. I'd prefer a place out in the country with as few neighbors as possible. The reason I'm looking at San Diego is the weather. It doesn't have to be San Diego just anywhere with a similar climate. Warmer winters a must! I'll be making a trip out soon to look around coming from North Carolina. I'm semi retired and besides wanting to escape the cold winters and hot humid summers I also want the freedom to medicate without all the paranoia I've lived with here. This move is a daunting task and all help is truly appreciated.

Not to knock San Diego, but I lived there for a minute and honestly didn't really like it.

The place is way segregated, with the white people near the beach's in La Jolla, Del Mar, Pacific Beach. They also run the nicer interior areas, like Mission Valley etc....The area is dominated by wealthy conservative white people, while the Mexicans live in the south near El Cajon and to the interior, where prices are cheaper. Also the girls are pretty stuck up. Maybe not as much as LA, but definitely Miami like.

It's not a bad place to live, but I found it rather uninspiring personally.

As far as a job, I'm sure it's more competitive than most places, because of how many people want to live there. Like most places in California, the amount that you get paid will more than likely leave you broke at the end of the month. I'm sure you can find a job for ten bucks/hr. I'm guessing that like most places, it's about who you know.

I much prefer the Bay Area. If you don't like the winters, and they won't be as bad as most part of the countries, you can always try and find seasonal work down south somewhere. It gets cold in SD too, especially near the Beach at night. I can only imagine it gets cold in the interior mountain areas as well.

If you come out you should check out Oakland. It's much warmer than SF, no one cares about you puffing, and I would say it's less expensive than SD.

Well then....I'd be in Mex...but that's me. Baja is awesome as is way down south on the mainland. Peeps in this country and even in this thread are so fearful of Mexicans....it is embarrassing how much prejudice I'm seeing. Guess they don't travel much.

Winters in SD are not what I consider warm....especially in the mnts. The beach in the winter is not warm either nor sunny 1/2 the summer. I don't think any of California is what you are looking for....in all honesty...it does not fit your criteria. It really does not....you will be disillusioned by the reality of our weather, the cost of living, the population and of how little importance being able to smoke pot "legally" really is in the grand scheme of things. It is not so awesome I'd move for it....I tell no lies dude.

Anyways Sd is an ok place. My buddy is in that 20-30 range, he has a nice sized apartment in an okay area. I think he pays 1300 for rent.

I came from an area out in the country where the houses average several hundreds of yards apart at minimum so I'm sure you can imagine I'm somewhat daunted by the prospect of dealing with a big city like SD. I don't mind a bit of cold nor heat. Here I get a lot of cold altho not like up north. The heat with humidity isn't pleasant either.

Looking at the weather charts for San Diego versus where I live believe me there's a big difference. So I have decided on the SD general area. The job market isn't an issue at all. My wife works as a waitress just to have something to do and I plan on buying a nice bass boat and catching up on my neglected fishing. I look forward to being able to grow again, it's been over 15 years since I had a run in with LEO that killed it for me here.

From the reading here and other forums I see the further I get from the coast the more extreme the weather is. Also I've read a lot about the micro climates etc. It's really tough to pinpoint exacts spots to look at from 3000 miles away so I was thinking about flying to the SD area airport then heading up the coast to the bay area. I plan on at least a week but that's open if I see I need more time. I want to take the time to check out each area to my satisfaction. I even thought about finding something to rent until I could pin down a location to live and going thru the entire house buying procedure. I like a lot I hear about Oakland except the crime. Maybe I have bad info but it sounds like good areas there are super expensive. Santa Cruz would be nice but there again everyone says it's super expensive.

I'm certainly not moving out there just for the growing climate, it's the big picture as compared to where I live now. I visited the LA area 30 years ago when I was in my 20's and have always wanted to move there and now I have the chance. Thanks a lot for your invalueable imput. + Rep to all.

Man I live within 2 hours of SD and I have a Resume in tech support for cells. I was making 18-25 an hour before we moved to CA. Now I am looking for better employment.. I can only be a waiter for so long.

Northern Tijuana, CA is a great place to live. I consider the U.S. / Mexico border to be at the 52 freeway but that will change soon.
