Dealing with spider mites AFTER harvest?

Hey there fella growers!

As you probably understood by the title, I have a mite problem..

I managed somehow to flower my OGkush for 90days +, for the last 30 days some extra stubborn mites decided to build a new fucking city for them on my lovely mature kush :violin:

the war was long, bloody and gruesome :dueling: :deadhorse:

I decided not to use any pesticides or any kind of oils cuz i dont like the idea of spraying my buds with toxic stuff or actually coating the buds with weird oils..
so i tried my best to deal with them by removing all their nets and visable mites.... its a true pain in the ass, sitting on a big fucking kush bush and removing not so very visable spider mites using toothpicks and what not..
obviously, the more i removed their nets, the more they built new ones and over new areas too.. truely sucked.

to make a long sad story short, i was forced to harvest my beloved kush over fucking mite takeover. needless to say im really really really pissed off.
all tho, they didn't mannage to cause too much damage to the plant, beside the eaten spotted leaf, and lots of spider nets with eggs on the bud and leaves.

and to my main question - how the FUCK do i deal with them now?
I trimmed all the leaf, cleaned all the buds from nets and left the buds on an open surface so they will have where to flee. BUT, 4 days into drying, i can still spot under a megnafier mini mites running around the bud !! :(
if i understood right, once you harvest and dry the bud the mites will flee from the bud?
i read that mites dont like cold temps, so i thought maybe keeping the drying buds in a cold room will make them run away?
and in the worse case - it is unhealthy to smoke mites...? or is it just gross?

PLEASE HELP ME DEAL WITH THOSE FUCKERS YO!!!

thanks ahead for any help!

Should have washed the plants with plain water like under the shower. I would smoke the bud.

When your buds are dry, put them in jars & then into the freezer for a day. No more living mites. Then you can take the jars out & start the curing process. I wouldn't worry about smoking the dead mites.........their mass is just too small.

Hey dude,

If are not going to spray nothing on your buds to kill them. nextime think about getting lady bugs they just love them tasty bastards. id hang up my buds to dry till they were ready for paper bags and throw somemore lady bugs in till they were ready for jars. your not going to get all the mites out so im sure youll smoke some...dead ones. i just hope that your buds are not covered in webs. i spray water with garlic and pepper also with a little dish soap every 2 to 3 weeks it seems to keep them away i had sprayed a plant that had mites with this and its mite free.

Clean Clean Clean Clean before your next grow if not youll get some more from eggs left around. bomb it and bleach the floors walls a few times. Goodluck

I frankly dont mind so much to smoke those bastards, and im sure i already smoked a couple.. yesterday I sampled a dry bud that I thought was was mite-free,
then came the "Snap&pop" sound...
uhhhhhhhh :chin: ... yummy..

I like the ideas, i'll check the bud again and see if they left by now, if not i'll give the jar freezing method a try.

i'll most deffenitly clean the FUCK out of my room before my next cycle. spray 90% alcohol all over etc..

you guys had any good results with neem oil or is it bullshit?

thanks a lot for the fast replays!!!

and by the way , that ogkush is pretty damn potent!:bongsmi:!

smoke the bugs too, everyone has sometime or another

*Zion do not use alcohol, use a diluted bleech to scrub the equipment and walls/cieling/floor. Use good circulation when doing this as the bleech may be overpowering.

i would get some lady bugs and cut pieces of your plant material and put them into a jar with holes so the lady bugs can breath, that way each piece gets a certin amount and the bugs wont and cant go around the plant since they are in jars ,cause when you have lady bugs in your growroom they sometimes dont stay on the plant so while they are in jars they have to stay around the infested areas.... so you will get them killed in no time!

then when the bastard mites are gone let the lady bugs go outside :)

if this happens again, you can harvest and hang the whole plant upside down. the mites will all congregate at the top (ie the bottom of the stalk) and once its dry and ready for cure you just cut off the end and all the remaining mites with it. worked for me very well.

Just another take on this...

Remember that while the adult mites may well 'flee' the bud, the eggs won't. Your bud is an infestation waiting to happen. A nice lil pack of spider eggs waiting for a place to hatch.

I agree that smoking it is fine, but treat it like the plague when around your grow or you will be reinfected in no time. Mites ARE the plague, ugggh.

Spraying with a Chili peper solution works very well.
Get the most hottest chili pepers you can find, those long red or green ones Fresh.
Blend 5 with 2.5 cups water, strain and then spray on both sides of leaves and you can even spray the buds.
Just watch out for your eyes and hands, wear gloves as the solution can burn your hands.
Spray for 3 days, It works very well.

hey you all

thanks for all the great ideas yo!

i checked the dry buds today, looks pretty mite-free to me..
but i didn't take any more risks - the buds are now in the freezer getting blasted. im gonna give them 3 hours.. im sure thats enough time to freez a bug in a size of a bread crumb.............. god damn green-net-building bread crumbs whhhaaaaaa!:spank:

more good news are that i checked the flowering room now and it looks much better now and with muuuuuch less mites and stuff running around..
tho some serious damage has been done to my kali mist and williams wonder, truely sucks. almost all the leaves droped and died, their color is deep brown BLACK......but the top colas of the williams look fine and no spider nets on them either, just massive leaf damage. they also fucked all the fan leaf of my deepchunk x x18 - and im ultra pissed about this one.. the bud leaf looks like it was bleeched or like white paint spilled on it.

Ronley - I may use the pepper spray method, i can get extra hot peppers very easily..but what about smoking the bud later on? and handling the plants
later on? wouldn't i get pepper spray on my fingers each i touch the plant ?
or will it just dry and vape with time?

have a good one ya'll! :joint:

The pepper spray "rubs" off or disintergrates as the plant grows.
Well I think it does. I have not actually licked the leaves or my fingers after handeling the plants, to see if they are "hot". and I dont feel any irritation on my hands after handeling the plants once the spray has dried. Also after a few days I dont see any signs of the spray on the leaves.

In any case I think that this Pepper/chili spray is the cheapest, safest, most Eco friendly, organic, cleanest, oil free solution to apply to the plants. And it does not harm the plants or buds in any way. Just dont get it into your eyes!!!
Rather the pepper on my plants then those beasty mites. It also works to eliminate thrips, which are little ugly black moving dots on the leaves. Have you seen those?

When I make ice hash, it will simply wash off the leaves. and Maybe my Ice hash will be spicy, never actually eaten it to taste.

I try not to spray the buds. But oviously they too get some pepper onto them, anyway I smoke the buds, and dont use them for cooking, but again, I would imagine that if used in coking the food would be spicey.

haven't seen thrips so far. but i did notice on one of my outdoor plants some small oval shiney-white eggs under one of the leaves, any idea who could be the mother?

i guess you're right man, better have spicey bud than mite infested bud.......
