DEA Scores MAJOR Bust in NM

"A drug task force made up of local agencies and the D.E.A. raided a man's home Tuesday in the Eddy County town of Malaga, looking for marijuana.

The man who was the target of a federal raid is a wheel-chair bound man who lost his legs about 20-years-ago.

Investigators say 44-year-old Leonard French had six potent Marijuana plants.

French is licensed by the state to grow and smoke medical marijuana, but the investigators did not know that until after the raid.

The state recently announced it would let qualified patients grow their own marijuana, because health officials feared that they would be vulnerable to federal drug prosecution.

French said he smokes medical marijuana for chronic pain and muscle spasms. He says marijuana is better than taking valium because it has less severe side effects.

French says he worked with his doctor and the state to get a medical marijuana license, so he could smoke it and grow it, but now he says he doesn't know what to do for medicine.

"I'm kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place, it makes me fee like someone says here's your drivers license to drive, and the first time I left the drive way, they took my car away," said French.

French has not been charged, but the press release sent out by investigators Tuesday says they still expect to file drug charges against French, even though he is licensed by the state to grow and smoke medical marijuana.

French says he let the officers into his home when they knocked on his door, believing he wasn't doing anything wrong."

-I am going to save my breath, and let you guys have at it for a minute. I'm watching the Sox lose to the Yankmees right now, can't tear my eyes away. It's like a car wreck.

Did they not say they weren't interested in arresting patients, only the gangs profiting from it? This is bad.... :chin:

Well, the DEA needs some help getting an erection and it's too dangerous to bust tweakers running a meth lab. By busting a crippled man, they get to run around with their gun(penis) out and have a little fun. The 6 plants were probably that everbearing variety that produces 6 lbs. per year, so this bust was likely worth over $230,00.

IDK man, the guy should have saw it coming. I mean come on, how many medical marijuana raids have we seen over the years? What does the federal gov't say? "Yes, the state can legalize it, but federal law always trumps state"

No matter if you are medical or not, have something or nothing to hide, NEVER let a pig in your house. Its just common sense.

You can bitch and cry foul - or get mad effective. The DEA operates in the shadows like we do, we need to make the wod more personal to them. First we need the agents full names, then we can find out their home addresses, spouse names, childrens names, parents names. And target them with legal mailing and phone calls - legal all the way. Youtub should expose their children, keep them under the same light we hide from. And get the kids and wives busted for the crimes they do, becasue everybody does small crimes, it is a factor of too many rules.

End the vampires, bring them into the light.

Hey look, they fixed Louisiana! Now that they have the time- I think the local cops and gov't should prolly spend what's left of their resources on enacting and enforcing new laws targeting minorities. Because, even though they were hit the hardest during Katrina, there are prolly still a few that escaped unscathed. Here's an idea......

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/08/29/baggy.pants.ap/index.html

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AP) -- Hike up those pants. Droopy drawers that bare skin or underwear might soon be forbidden fashion on the streets of several cities, and violators could be forced to part with some cash.

"I'm tired (of) looking at behinds," Shreveport, Louisiana, Councilwoman Joyce Bowman said after Tuesday's 4-3 vote to ban fanny-flaunting trousers.

Nobody can be arrested just for violating the ordinance, but they could be fined or required to perform community service. The maximum fine for a first offense is $100.

The city council in another Louisiana city, Alexandria, voted unanimously Tuesday to ban the baring. Its ordinance allows some sag, but 3 inches or more can bring a fine of $25 to $200 and a requirement for community service.

If the mayors of Shreveport and Alexandria sign the ordinances, they will bring Louisiana's total to at least six, with at least two more cities considering bans.

Elsewhere, Atlanta's City Council held a hearing on a measure to outlaw saggy pants that reveal shorts or thongs. The Atlanta measure will likely face another hearing before it comes to a vote, and some sponsors say it is already starting a debate that's long overdue in the city's schools, community centers and churches.

Striped underpants peeked out of 19-year-old Jae Cripe's outfit Tuesday at an Atlanta City Council meeting next to a sign that proclaimed: "Clothes are not a crime."

Across the crowded room, 76-year-old James Allen was making his own statement, talking about the start of a "belt brigade" that could one day patrol the streets to urge kids to pull up their baggy pants.

R.E. Williams, a veteran Atlanta police officer, said he views the saggy pants trend as a measure of sorts because "the lower the pants are, the lower the self-esteem."

"It's a downright disgrace to walk into a classroom with your pants around your ankles," he said. "We need to let them know they are somebody -- that they can rise above the occasion."

A similar proposal in Stratford, Connecticut, was soundly rejected this week after critics argued it would be unconstitutional and unfairly target minorities.

Some opponents cite other objections.

"Are you going to have a 'sagging' court?" Michael Williams asked Shreveport's council. "The police have more important things to do than chase young boys and girls and say 'pull your pants up."'

I had always thought there was a connection between intelligence and proximity to the coast, in Americans. Louisiana just messes that idea right up. At least CT has read the constitution.

[EDIT: Mind you my dad would have whupped my ass with his belt, before making me put one on myself. Don't be distracted, here. The fact that it's about "underwear" is immaterial]

Wow, six whole plants. The DEA should really be proud....that bust should pretty much justify their large annual budget.
