Data Entry

I just started a at-home business thing. Basically, all i have to do is

copy Registration cards onto a simple online program, i.e. serial numbers,

model numbers, name, address, where purchased and BAM, i get .10 cents

per registration card i copy.

I was hoping we have some techys here that could help me find a program that will let me copy + paste numbers and letters from a picture(jpeg i think) to
the online program.

Right now, It won't even let me highlight anything cause it's a scanned picture.

So they scan the registration cards, then all i do is enter the info from the
scanned card onto a simple program. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can't do it from a Jpeg with any software
what you need is some OCR software that can scan and reconise text

:)

Hi!

In my office we use Omnipage Pro ver 15.0 (there is a 16.0 now) to scan documents into a Omnipage file (*.opd not a jpeg or gif or tiff yet..) Then you can tweak omnipage to recognize certain areas of the page as certain tables. Its pretty easy to use. Then you just save the omni document as whatever you need to export to, be it spreadsheet or pdf or whatever.

The software can be purchased (eek :badday: ) at www.nuance.com. It is expensive... you may know of other ways of getting your hands on it as you would have to do a lot of cards to profit.. (maybe there is a trial version to download from the site)

Def a powerful ocr tool, if anyone knows of any other programs that do a better job than omnipage id appreciate hearing about them.

Good Luck! :rasta:

I would recommend getting a 2nd monitor and an adapter. Keep the one page of information open on the one screen and the website on the other. Rather simple and cheap way.

How do you go about starting something like that if you dont mind me asking? Is it a contracted type of thing? Ive always been interested in doing something like that as I am a wizard at typing/data entry, just never found the time to look into it.

thanks guys for the replys. Thought I'd upload a pic and give yall a general

idea of what I do.

joder,

it's already on one screen......just would like a way to Increase my productivity.

Right now, I'm avg 500 a day at .10 each......7 days a week, on top of my

current job. I found this out through a friend at church, apparently though

there was an add in the paper, it was free, no money up front or anything.

if you have to pay to do data entry, it's a scam.

I will have to look more into Data Entry...

I really don't think there would be a more efficient way of doing that, especially with changes in hand writing. And like Org said, its expensive to find software to do something like that.

Your probally stuck doing it by hand, 50$ a day is pretty good actually. Especially since you have another job.

you need a automated scanner with a paperfeeder there are some that can sequentialy scan up to 500 pages....

alot of OCR programs are unfortunately not able to decipher writeing as bad as your sample.
atleast not for the public.

not for nothing but, if they had a program to do what you want, why would they be paying you to do the job?
the program would do it, for a one time fee.

i have run image recognition/text recognition software for past jobs, and anything that isnt printed perfectly in legible handwriting wont work.

Late response but... better late than never

OCR software has come a long way.

Take a look at your local PO hub. You think someone reads each and every envelope nowadays? Nope. The good germans of Siemens have engineered a touchless mail sorting apparatus. Northrup Grumman puts it together for them along with a HUGE mail sorting/limiting bin system.

Cocktail... Maybe they don't have someone with enough creativity or ability to put thought towards a project such as this. I say go for it, I bet it can be done fairly easily. One hinderance.... having to double check your scan engine's output. Make sure they match.... probably best left to someone that can dev their own software for such a project.

5 people doing it for you at .08 cents per copy means that you get the .10 cents you normally get for each time they do one each. If each works at the same pace as you then you've doubled your income. Couple in Verites option of hiring cheap labour and it grows exponentially.
Now add in the OCR OP mentioned. Have OCR first proof all reg cards you get and farm only the unreadables to the labourers. You then get the pick of the crop while the labourers still output your old level of work.

Work smarter, not harder.

Just an idea.......
