their 8x8 square model blocks light exceptionally well while maintianing a good flow. Remember that your intake size (if using for 2x exhaust calculation) is, at most, half the size of the actual piece. So for the 12x12, it would be about 6x12 or less of actual open space. I don't think this matters though for one with a fan.

The price didn't strike me as being too bad. $125 for a 6 '' 400CFM would be a pretty good deal in my neck of the woods. Not to mention a heavy duty 12x12 darkroom louver! But I agree, someone should buy one and let us know :)

I came across this fan when I was looking for louvers. Initially I was going to go with the panasonic whisper series, but this thing has me really curious. I agree $125 is a pretty good deal. I was hoping somewhere on icmag I would find someone who had put this one to use, but this is all I could find. So I just decided to go out on a limb and give this one a shot. I'm afraid it's going to be really loud, but I will definitely be using a speed controller. My cab is small and I just don't need that much cooling during the winter months. Just enough to keep cycling in fresh air for the plants. Anyway, for those still interested I will give a review once I have had some time to evaluate it's performance. By the way this will be my second grow, about three years removed from my first. Can't wait to get the show on the road. I figure about two weeks or so.

you can also get 8" louvers like that without the fan from the same site (adorama.com) for about $10. of course you have to rig up your own fan system but the louvers are cheap.

i was using them for a bit and they work great. they use these staggered plastic fins in a zigzag pattern to block light.

As long as you have a decent cfm fan they dont restict airflow too bad and they are 100% light-tight.

So I've hooked this fan up and right now it's running full speed and sounds like a freaking hurricane. Really though it sounds like my bathroom fan, which by no means is stealth. This being my second grow I have nothing else to compare it to. What does a 400cfm Vortex sound like? Anything close to a bathroom fan?

Looks like I will need to cool my light after all. Made some rookie mistakes when I was testing it out. I'll come back later and post on the fans performance. If it is able to cool adequately I might just make/invest in a duct muffler. I certainly can't have it running this loud once I get some plants in there.

Yes, a vortex or other brand fan will make more sound then a bathroom. Just get a dimmer and you'll probably be ok.

I got a 1050cfm 10", it sounds and feels like a jet engine.
