Dark Room Problem, Please Advise

Just got my new dark room tent and went to set it up and my dumb ass didn't take into account the heating duct running across the ceiling. Both my areas where I have exhaust to the outside are not gonna work. The only place is in 8x8 room in the basement, which stays fairly cool. Now, I know I can exhaust the hot air from the tent into the room but, what about the passive intake. Is this gonna hurt me bringing that air back into the tent, will it be cooled off any before entering the tent again? Am I screwed? Do I absolutely need to find a fresh air source?

I am not the final say in this matter, but I do have an opinion, especially after growing in a bedroom for yrs! I only grow indoors in winter, & my 400wt light only serves to help warm room. In my case, if & when I set up my tent, I'll prolly be okay to re-intake my exhaust.
Most will tell you to definitely exhaust outdoor or to a chimney or some such . . . . and you probably should if you want to grow indoors all year.
How big is your light? How big is the space you exhaust into? What are the temps in room? If it's above 70 or 80 degrees, and a small space, you may have issues . . .

If it were me, I'd keep it simple (go ahead & try it) then, as they say, complicate as needed . . . .

Oh yeah, return here & let us know how it turns out; I'm sure there's a lot of peeps with this same question.

good lu7ck! :rasta:

alright rasta scooby, ill throw you a bone.basements are usually cooler that rest of the house,so if you vent into it yes it will warm that area up.the air you are bringing into your tent will have to be dry enough to dehumidify the inside of the tent and bring fresh air in at the same time.so,if you are exhausting your light into the basement,it will warm and dry the basement at the same time,in the meantime you are sucking that air back into the tent through a passive intake.that air has to be lower humidity then the air in you r tent where the plants reside.the humidity will increase quickly as the plant transpire and use the water you give them.that water vapor will need somewhere to go.if you blow that water vapor out and to the basement, you have to hope the hot light exhaust will counteract the increase in humidity in the basement so you are not recirculating it back into the tent.

use a dehumidifier in the basement to lower the humidity.in turn that will also take care of the humidity in the tent you are exhausting into the basement.you will need to draw fresh air into that tent though some fresh air source.or you can provide co2 into the tent but if u are running a filter 24/7 you will be exhausting the co2 quickly.

depending on the volume of air you are recirculating, will be dependendant on how the inside of the tent reacts.idf you are doing a loop u need fresh air introduced into that loop.that way the stale air get s mixed with fresh air and dehumidified at the same time.depending the age of the house will be determinate of how the air seeps from the dwelling.all factors will need to be considered including temps, humidity of the basement,if the air is not dehumidified then mold will build up in your basement fast.you can exhaust the air if u cant dehumidify.go through a drier vent.id exhaust the stale air through the vent and exhaust the light into the basement.that way the heat from the light warms the basement and the stale air fron the basement or tent is exhausted through the vent.check out the secret jardin thread in this section i started.it may help.peace

Thanks for looking out for me guys. Thinking my only choice right now will be to cut exhaust and intake into the door of the room and hope i get enough fresh air. Already have a dehumidifier going, so got that covered. Will keep you guys posted on the results. Will flip girls after my damn clones(which look like hell by the way) hopefully start to root.

keep me posted, shirshamus.Try to get a few pics if you can.ill try to follow up on this and help ya if you get stuck.dont forget it doesnt hurt to get an intake filter on that type of air in the basement.usually a hepa on the intake side of the tent.although most of the air in the basement since its cool could contain mold and fungi spores.doesnt hurt to pretreat that area b4 hand with a bug bomb(watch out for natural gas furnaces.keep bug bomb away from direct spray or in the vicinity of the furnace.sparays usually are flamable). then you can hit the basement with a shot from a sulphur burner or a high dose of ozone.(make sure the area is unoccupied).keep on keepin on.

Will do on the update eyes, still thinking on different scenarios. Think I might be able to get to the old furnace flu. It will take at least 25 feet of duct I'm sure, but will be probably worth it.
