Dark leaves from start

Have you ever seen a strain that has purple leaves early in veg, preferably right off the bat? Would be a nice trait to introgress into a stealth hybrid.

So far I've only seen dark leaves in full size plants, mostly due to senescence or cold temps.

Not here but like you say would be nice to see for stealth :good:

Do you mean the leaves or the meristems and is it an indoor or outdoor plant? Some plants seem to react to high UV with purpling

I mean all leaves. Preferably outdoors.
I've had many plants purpling in late flowering, but it has never been completely. I have also had plenty of purple buds, but I would like to see a plant that is dark all over, as in not green. Red, purple or black is all good.

Ah you meant it as a theoretical question. The strongest I've had is the meristems purpling straight from seedling, not the leaves though

This Indian landrace is completely dark, meristem, fan leaves and buds. My guess is it's months into flowering? It would be nice stealth if it could be bred to be like this from the start.

I've been seeing some of Gooeybreeder's work I've been seeing on IG purples very early (esp. Black Raptor line), although it's starting in mid-late veg, not from the start.

Hey Teide!

This is something I am working on currently :) Just hit a Pakistani Chitrali Kush with a variegated male and
should have seeds for the summer to grow out and select.

There is a precedent for what you speak of from 1911 from the US hemp breeder Lyster Dewey:

teide - Do you know which region this is from? This is a beautiful plant! I have actually seen a Ducksfoot with the purple leaves like that but I can't seem to find the photo now that I'm looking for it.

I'm sure we're not the only ones looking for a beautiful plant like this!

Miasa Mura - Do you have a thread going? Would like to bookmark that. I am interested in finding these traits as well. If we want to do a co-op or something I'm game!

crunkyeah I don’t have a thread going specifically for this project and haven’t done an upload for a little while but I intend to update very soon! The Variegated male (woodland digital) x PCK project is week 4 of flower and stacked with seeds. I also bx the variegated male to an already bx variegated female from last year I made and I selected out of 50 plants that showed the recessive variegation so there should be some real colorful herb this summer :)
Nothing I have been working is stabilized yet and I’m a small breeder so my seed stock is very limited currently, though once I find what we’re all looking for here I will be putting that into major production and giving the seeds away for free to make the world a more beautiful place. This strain should never be sold for money and only given away in the spirit of unity and compassion. Hopefully next spring I can let you all know where the drop will be. Either Heirloom Seed Festival in Santa Rosa, Emerald Cup in Santa Rosa or Maha Shivaratri in Laytonville.

The purple hemp plat from 1912 sounds intriguing, but I couldnt see it stated that the foliage was purple from start, maybe it also started off green.

Being that i'm from mixed grass prairie land, hardly any trees, i was wondering why purple would be a stealthy choice. I would think that it would stick out like a beacon, amongst all the green and gold background. I suppose that if you had those things called trees all around, the purple might fit right into the shadows?

Damn right purple is no stealth outdoors. It works better as stealth in a garden, but only with leaves of the ABC or ducksfoot kind.
