Dangers of 12/12 before maturity?

Hey, my plants have been veggin for almost 6 weeks and 3 of the 8 have preflowers. The other 5 are still not alternating nodes or showing preflowers. I am growing in my closet and am dealing with some height restrictions as well as wanting to take that step closer to harvest. If I force them to show sex, what kind of problems am I looking at? Hermies? Also, for those of you that 12/12 before alt. nodes or preflowers, do you have problems and do you think the male/female ratio becomes affected? Thanks

i don't think you have anything to worry about........ i grew a entire grow from seed to veg and bloom under 12/12 with no problems.....very good yeild.....since you vegged for almost six weeks your not flowering 2 early........ i flower due to size + nodes...meaning at 6-12 inches and 4 or more nodes...not time.

Those are vg Qs i would like to also know the answer to 420oc. All i can contribute is that more than once i have not let a plant reach maturity before clonning/flowering it & i got far too many hermies for my like ing...this also happened more than once with more than 1 strain. I see some doing it today though with np s'. Since your plants are already 6wks they should be ready to flower...imo. Not all plants will show pre-flowers so @ 6wks veg. i would flip the switch...personally or they may just outgrow your spot. Take care & i am interested in others thoughts Peace 3ld

edit: see ^^ some have no problems & my experience was w/ like 2-3 wks veg....i ve tried even less &...it's not for me

3legdog, you should be checking your setup for light leaks etc. Plants can be put into flower at any given time without causing hermies, though waiting for sexual maturity (preflowers and alternate branching) will ensure you get the most out of your plants especially in terms of yeild. Switching to 12/12 early or late won't cause hermies. What will cause hermies is plant stress, thus light leaks, interrupted light cycles, repeated overfert and various types of plant abuse

Another hermie factor is whether or not you are growing feminized plants. Feminized strains are notoriously prone to herm.

Personally I flower as soon as my plants reach sexual maturity, usually around 30 - 40 days veg.

Draw-What strain, how much light, and how many grams per plant did you get without veggin?

Blue-Thanks for setting that straight for me. I'll be flippin the lights today!!

Off to Home Depot to grab some of that panda material to ensure complete darkness. They probably carry this right?

Peace

Go for it 420...your ladies will be fine, you've vegged them enough even if not all of them are sexed yet. I also find myself having to flip to 12/12 before all the plants are sexually mature occasionally, if they've vegged a month IMO you won't seriously compromise your yeild

Funny you should mention that blue i actually did have a light leak about 2yrs ago that i didn't know about for 6mos. luckly the only plant that ever grew male parts was the one near that section of the room..it just took my d.a. 2 grows to figure it out :bat:

I do see that many people today go with little or no veg from seed i just like the sexual maturity first method...especially since i usually am cutting clones off before i flower anything from seed....got 6(+1 double sprout) lifesavers, & 6 verry berry suprise sprouted today :woohoo: (thats 100+%germ)thanks BOG/Gypsy
Anyway like Everyone has said from reply 1 on in this thread 6wks is plenty to veg. especially if your not pulling clones

edit : i also wanted to add that what i said in my above post still is my honest belief & is the reason i will always let my plants reach a level of sexual maturity before flowering. I believe the possibility for hermies is far greater with the clones & the donar plant i have just put into flower...especially the clones if i do not let the the donar veg properly...my thoughts are pretty basic : a non mature plant put into flower=a possibe weak/stressed plant=possible lack of vigorous growth & the increased potential for herms'/male parts to show up especially in mid to late flowering ....stress is stress is stress no matter how it comes & it can definetly cause bananas. And i m speaking from my experience not from something i have read. Take care all 3ld
