cwilly's new cabinet

So I ditched the bigger tent I had as it was a little bit too much work for my busy life. I built this new cabinet that I am very happy about. It is 28" x28" x 5' tall.

For lights I have two Advanced DS100's (half power for veg) and a CLW
Solarflare 110 BloomBooster that I will turn on when I flower. I think this should give me sufficient light. I got some clones from some friends but some are not looking good. The leaves look like eagles talons and I cannot tell why. My temps are usually around 70f and humidity right around the same. I have them under a dome. Two of the plants rooted and look OK but the rest have not. I transferred these into the coco pots. I know one strain is The White. I also got Pure Kush, 2 x Casey Jones and OG13 from my other friend. Those are the 4 that are bunched together. These ones look like they are in much better shape but were taken more recently. Well here are the pictures.

Woo hoo! One of the Casey jones is showing roots. Can't wait to see how it grows! Other small ones are still not doing well. Rooted ones in pots look nice as well.

if you can, i would suggest trying to raise the heat in there for better growth. for the life of me i can't find the article, but i recently read that when you work with LEDs you want to try and have the temperature around 5 degrees warmer than with any other bulbs. they give off little IR, so the plants don't get that extra heat.

i had the same problem with my new bin staying below 75, and when i got the temp up to 80F the plant did a lot better. anyone else read the article i'm talking about???!

*EDIT* found the thread with the link: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=300778
people seem to disagree with some of the article's points, but i think the LED and IR info seems legit.

i really like your cabinet by the way, how many plants do you think will end up fitting in there for a full flower?

Hey man thanks for your help! I have added 4 CFL's in there to help keep the temperature right. It is very hard since our temperatures vary so much during the day and night. Goes from 60 during the day down to 20 at night so it is hard for me to keep temperatures up without some sort of automation. The eagle claw ones are not doing well so probably just going to ditch those. May go to the dispensary tomorrow and pick up a different strain because why not haha. I just love the whole process! Can't wait to start taking clones of my own soon!

I guess it all depends on how long I veg. I started with a lot of plants since I got most of them for free. I may do minimal veg time and see if I can fit 9 in there. I really want to try as many strains as possible so I am fine with keeping them small. This is all a hobby for me so if it doesn't work out as well as I hope that is OK with me. I plan on taking some clippings and starting some moms. I am going to turn a big storage bin into a little veg cabinet once these finally get going. Not too sure what I am going to use the seedlings for but maybe turn them into moms or something if there are any females.

Thanks again!

Awesome! Glad I could help ya out. I hear ya on the temp thing, I'm just surprised the huge temperature swings every day don't seem to have any impact on the plant. but it does seem to grow more towards the end of the day when it gets to the right temp. you noticing that too?

you're going to have a blast with cloning. just started doing it a couple months ago. it's amazing how much you can do with these plants. starts becoming more than just a hobby, more like a new art form to master!

so 9 different pots? if so, what size? or would you have them all in the same soil?

The pots I am using are 3/4 gallon. I laid them out in the cabinet to see what they look like.

Now that I am looking at it they may be a little cramped with that setup but not too sure. What do you guys think?

For the temperatures I just meant where I am in the winter it goes all over the place so it is hard to keep the box at optimal temperatures especially being a poor ski bum. They are usually pretty good through controlling when my exhaust fan runs and doesn't run.

Cheers!

Well I am about a month in from clone. The ladies are doing pretty well. So I think the clones I got from my one friend were actually Larry OG. I ended up getting 2 more from him and he wasn't sure which ones they were. Those will be J1 - J5 haha. 5 out of the 9 of his that I got did well. Unfortunately the 2 Casey Jones were the only other ones to root so I lost the PK and OG13. I ended up going to the shop and got a Blueberry and a Pineapple Jack. Those are doing very well. The Blueberry is the stoutest plant I have ever dealt with. Here are some pictures.

First plant in the lineup is Casey Jones 1. The biggest plant I have for sure. Next up is J1 followed by J2. As you can see J2 is very small compared to the others. Hopefully she takes off soon

The first one is J3 the healthiest of all of those. Next up is the Blueberry which looks like it is hiding. Following that is J4.

Next up we have J5 looking all bent. Following that is the other Casey Jones. Next is the Pineapple Jack.

I just did some tying down with all of them to try and create some nice even growth. My plan as of now is to leave them alone for a while and allow them to grow. Then I will do a little more tying and install some screens on the supports that I have on the pots. I am hoping with this method I can try and keep a nice even canopy.

Woo hoo!

They've really started to grow out. They look great.

How much longer are you going to veg them?

Do you run your lights during the day? If you do, you could run them at night during the winter to help counter the temp swing.

Thanks Blynx! Great to have you watching this. I think I will veg them for another week or two. I want to fill out the cabinet a little more before making the switch.

The lights are off at 10pm for 6 hours which works well for me since that is usually when I have the house the hottest with the fire going. I am thinking of turning the lights on at 8pm when I do 12/12 since it is starting to get warmer during the days. Temperatures have been a constant 70 which I am fine with.

Cheers!

I haven't decided if I am going to pull clones yet. I have yet to build a new veg box so may save taking clones for next run. I have 3 or 4 good sources for clones and the dispensary so I am not too worried about my next run. It will most likely be completely different genetics which I always love.

Along those lines I was at a friends for Easter and ended up coming home with a Plush Berry clone. This came out of nowhere but I should have enough space if I tie everything right. It was quite big so I tied it down to try and get it on the same level as the other plants.

Here they are. The Plush Berry is front and center.

Happy Easter!

Well here they are 7 weeks from cut. I am thinking of switching over to 12/12 soon. Do you guys think I should do a screen on each pot or just let them grow normal and support them? Most of them have a lot of tops already so I am not sure what to do. At 3 or 4 inches above the plants right now the supports are about 6 inches apart. What would the best grid size be? Any help would be appreciated on the best way to flower these ladies out. The tallest plant is 8" at the moment. I have 29" between that plant and the highest my LED's can get.

Here we are a week and a half into flower. I guess the people who said bud blood doesn't reduce stretch were wrong haha. I used it listening to a friend but I don't know if I will use it again.

Yea they are looking quite nice. I just wish I had filled out the cabinet a little more but hopefully I can get some new ladies veging soon so I can get my cycle going. They have stretched a little bit but really not much at all. I can see how bud blood can have its uses but I didn't expect such a drastic affect on stretch.

well, you still have at least a couple weeks of stretch potential. there are plenty of things you can do to increase stretch. you could adjust the light height, the light spectrum, or give them a little extra nitrogen for the next couple of waters. i'm sure there are more things you could do, but that's what i've been fooling around with that gets results with no ill effects.

Yea I am sure they will stretch a little bit more but I was expecting a lot of stretch from a couple of them. The blueberry has barely moved at all. It is a very funny plant. I am going to keep my nutes and everything the same and see where they end up.

Anybody have any guesses on yield?
