Cutting's roots growing in wrong place!

These cuttings were taken 9 days ago, 2 weeks into 12/12. Placed under 80W of 4' 6500K floros. Cloning gel, rockwool, really weak flowering ferts, pH 5.0. Been kept above 90% rh aqnd in the mid 70s since.

I see roots now, but they're growing out of the stem and not out the bottom of the cube ...

Is this a good sign or are they hopelessly confused?

When do I need to give more ferts? Now? When they get them in soil?

That is not good. Try no ferts and ph 6. Your mother plants seem not in good health...maybe low in magnesium. If roots are coming out above the rockwool, it may be too wet/lack oxygen or just too acidic.

I believe the mothers are/were quite healthy - they're doing great in flower. I'll squirt some H2O2 solution in there to try to get some more oxygen in there. I believe they're not too wet: I didn't soak the cubes, but saturated them with a syringe, leaving them less wet than when I'd dipped them a few minutes. Since they've only been misted.

That looks easy: a mini DWC. What pH? Do you put rooting hormones in the "reservoir"? Anything else?

I use water from my tap, no idea what the pH is, it is well water. I do not put anything on the stem, I cut it at a slant and if the stem is hard, I'll score it slightly with scissors and put it in. That one is an Apollo 11 and I started seeing root growth at about 4 days and it was coming from the sides of the stem.
That pic is 7 days in the cloner.

at this point since you already have roots showing I'd CAREFULLY trim away some of that rockwool and go ahead and get them planted.

Just pull gently on the rockwool so that it comrs off in thin layers. Start at the corners and if you come to roots in the cube stop there.

I gotta agree they look like they're staying too wet. One way to be sure though is to give them a good shake in a downward motion and see if any water drips out. (while holding them by the rockwool of course)

If they drip theres too much water being retained.

Whenever I did use rockwool (which for me wasn't often, hate the stuff) I would give them a good shake every time they were watered to make sure that I got out any excess water. I also would water them from the bottom making sure that as they drew up the moisture it didnt reach the top of the cube so the top always stayed a little drier. this will encourage the roots to grow down through the cube.

For what its worth, thats my :2cents:

Oh, I have some questions...
How frequently are you misting?
dome or no dome?

I'm thinking that since your humidity is so high and you are misting that could explain the roots on the stem.

As you get later into the process its a good idea to let the humidity come down a bit and let them air out more.

Two reasons...
1. Wet to dry cycle encourages the roots to spread better as they seek moisture in the cube. (this is why I'd water from the bottom)

2. Excessive humidity late in the process will make it a little more difficult for them to adjust to the the enviroment outside the clone tray.

The dome comes off for a few minutes 2x/day and they're misted 1x/day.

I was thinking of just planting those with roots growing in the air - however on at least one where I can see down into the hole a bit, there is a root growing into the rockwool.
