Cutting the base of fabric pots?

Hi all!

I haven’t tried it but asking myself if anyone else has tried to cut off the base of fabrics?

Couldn’t it be helpful to have a height extension and extended root growth space? On the other side the air and root circulation could get worse?!

I’m asking for guerilla outdoors

Wouldn't the root grow through those anyway?
I haven't used them myself but they do sound like it

When you keep the bottom, and on top of soil, there is a fine root and capillarity network forming. I sometimes move my pots and I have to twist and lift and it takes 2-3 days of abundant watering to restore it in the new location. A side by side would be super interesting

I have seen myself rooting through the base but I can’t imagine a strong rooting into mother soil. Cutting off would be more efficient in my mind.

I will maybe try a side by side next year

So, you are wondering about using the bags like the 'raised beds' that have no bottom, just the sides? I am thinking, if that's the case, that it would be hard to cut off the bottoms, and then put dirt inside. It would be easier to put the dirt in, then cut off the bottom, but i have not tried that. Best to rough up the soil pretty deep, that is in the spot that you want to put the bag. But, i dunno, have not worked much with planting in bags. Just got honeyberries this year, decided to put them in bags, because we couldn't get them into the ground right away. They sit on concrete and have been doing good, so far.

A slit or two is probably enaugh to let roots fully escape downwards. That way it keep form while you move it.
