recently I started using coco mixed with my FF OF and I like it,
I like it a lot!
I did a 1:1 ratio on a few seedlings in 16 oz cups and they did great it but wondering if I'd get better results with less coco... say a 50% coco mixed in?
my OF is already cut with perlite 3:1

does anyone else do this and what kind of ratios are you using?
1:1... 50:50.... 3:1

25% ffof 25% ffhf 25% perlite 25% coco. Mix in worm castings. Mix in dol lime. Always great results. Loose fluffy soil. Great mix at least.

Interesting cause I'm using pure coco and find it so very fluffy (Roots Organic) but I'm thinking mixing soil counters the true beauty of coco coir; thought it was either or and not soil+coco but idk; coco's all new to me. I'm thinking it would be harder to know the amount of nutes to add because pure cocoa has nothing in it so doing feed-feed-water seems easier but yours is an intriguing idea gnome. Then if you add the worm castings along with the amended ff do you would just eliminate all ferts with N in it? and eliminate the epsom? And wouldn't the soil added reduce the beneficial bacteria to ward off bugs and mites that clones are prone to get and the coco coir protects against? Just asking for the next round if I get this coco grow stable.

hey yukon,
great to hear of a proven recipe with coco-n-soil

what up chacha.
I will eventually try straight coco but for now i want to find a happy medium
between the two.
i would add any castings, OF already has them and OF only lasts about a month fertwise and I'm using rez's GH bloom and micro 6-9 recipe so I should be good fert wise.
trying differing ratios gives my OF a very light an airy texture... extremely nice and also saves on using so much OF

amended coco sounds really interesting, since fox farms is kind of hot...im gonna run a few trays with a FF/coco mix...probably do it at 1:1

What PH are you guys using when watering w/ a OF/Coco blend? Straight coco is recommend at 6.2 and OF is 6.6.................

hey laughingman...
I tried a 50:50 mix amended with blood-bone-kelp meals with my tomatoes and a few other garden items and they look better than anything Ive ever done in the past... they look amazing!!
I think I try a few like that with the indoor garden and see what happens but I think I'll try yukonjoes recipe for most of the testers using coco.

25% ffof 25% ffhf 25% perlite 25% coco. Mix in worm castings. Mix in dol lime. Always great results. Loose fluffy soil. Great mix at least.

thats a good Q bunz, seems like the more you up the coco ratio it would require Ph tweeking??

Hey gnome whats up man? Im running Lem Sknuk 4 gal containers and those baby's are huge and loving my mix. First 2-3 weeks in veg don't need any fert's. Ph is very stable between 6.2-6.5 every time. I was in my garden last night and was amazed at how nicely the nute's are absorbed with this mix. Huge root system. Hope it works for you. Keep me posted.

ha HA!!
thats what I like to hear joe :)
judging by what my outdoor veggies are doing I'm going to be extremely pleased with this mix.

only thing is, I'm using the OF-of-coco-perlite
I can't get the happy frog where i'm at easily but my totatoes
are still bustin out with this mix

Yo Gnome and Bunz I ph at 6.0, run-out is about 6.5 also I have been recycling the 2 soils together hope this helps...peace

het LM!
I plan to start recyling and ammending with organics after I use up the last of my OF.
after my OF nutes run out in 3-4 wks then I'll be using rez's
6-9ml recipe which is great for coco or soil.
good thing is with my tap Ph, mixing the 6ml GH micro and (ml GH bloom my final PH without adding PH up/down is right @6.4ish

doesn't get much easier than that :)
