Curing question for Raco and Sativa growers

I was wondering about the super cured colas Raco has posted on several occasions. I havnt seen such fine curing on most of the other colas I see on these forums.
How do you and others achive such a richly cured final product. The cloriphyl free, golden redish brown hues look simply delicious.
I usually just "glass jar cure" but I never get the rich earth tones I see on Racos nugs.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, Raco has some nice looking cured colas and I too would like to hear about his process!

Great post!

That paper bag is going to dry them out quite fast

Curious to hear Raco's method as well

However, I would chop at the base .. hang the entire plant upside down for 3-5 days - until the branches snap ... then trim and jar

Nice looking nugs

Depending on how much I have I usually cut and hang for a week. Brown bag it for a week and then sweat cure it in glass for a couple of weeks.

Nice Orient Express, looks exactly like some I grew out in 2005
cure it well! ;)

I´m guessin that you live in an humid place...(damn,I´ve even seen dubongs in your pics lol!)
how high is humidity over there?

Here we hang the plants for a long time( two months at least) in a proper place...humidity is always high and the plants dry very slowly (depending on the place,of course)

Here´s one of those colombian of the n+2 generation slowly dryin
the date is wrong..it should read XI instead of X lol!

@Raco

any special reason why u let them dry at this high humidity?
or is it just the environment?

how does it affect the end-product?

the benefit of drying at high humidity is that the plant stays "alive" longer and without sunlight is forced to break down the chlorophyll for energy. It is the chlorophyl that gives the minty grassy taste that hides the real flavours of the plant's resins. The longer the drying cycle the more chlorophyl can be broken down. Where I live in the summer you can also hang stuff for months like Raco but the temperatures are also very high 80-90F which causes a high level of microbe activity which basically composts the buds making them look a really dark unappealing brown colour. I too have never seen nicer cured buds than Raco's, what are the temps during the time your a hanging Raco?

Thanks Raco and all.
Good info.
I have very high humidity in my area. Today it was in the low 90s and near 100% humidity. This year has been terrible for the deadly air born Mold spores.
Raco I have just the place for a long humid cure. I think tobacco is also cured that way.

The pict. with the buds and old currency is classic.

Personally, I would give a long clean would flush .. chop at the base .. line dry for 4-6 days or so - until the branches snap .. then trim and jar

Paper bags are excellent for a fast dry ... if you cant line dry ... or after... if you cant get the buds dry enough - fast enough ... before smoke or cure ... careful ... because the bags will dry out your buds quickly

I use a paper bag to keep buds, and trim for the hash heap .. I dry 3-6 weeks in a paper bag .. and I kinda like freezing a few hours before making bubble

Hope that helps

The paper bags are really just to slow the drying process while still allowing more air exchange than the jar to avoid anaerobic bacteria developing and composted nugs. Personally I think they can be skipped if you get the moisture level perfect before going into the jar. There can be a million paths to get the same result it's all really just about humidity levels and stretching out the drying time and this can be done by hanging fresh plants in high humidity like Raco, or hanging almost cured plants in a barn like area like Silverback recommended or many other ways. I think the key though is not letting the buds dry out completely until the desired amount of chlorophyl has been removed. Pretty sad that the commercial guys around my neck of the woods actually do the opposite and try to dry as quick as possible because the buyers like bright green buds with lots of chlorophyl...beasters=Canada's shame.I'm off to stare at my stash jar and wish that it was filled with raco cured X18 nugs lol
