Creating a Mother Plant

I just read All About Bonsai Mums. It show's how you can create a Bonsai Mum from a Clone. But if I already have an established plant that's 5-6' tall can I trim that back into a Bonsai?

My mother plant is huge and has heaps of fan leaves. But it's taking up alot of space and doesn't produce alot of clones.

you should try this to make it produce alot of cuttings...
LST your mom, then top every "top" that comes up..in 2 weeks youll have more cuttings then you know what to do with once you top all the "tops" that you get...dont you see what im saying?

Take a cut from the plant before you go 12/12 with it and bonsai the cut.

Now im going to get myself a g13xnycd mother going,but at the moment its in a rockwool cube until i put it in the ebb and flood with clay pebbles.Whats the best medium for a mother plant soil,rockwool,coco,aqua.
Bearing in mind i already have clay pebbles and i already have alot of canna substrate nutes which is the best and cheapest way to keep a mother healthy.

With a 50 dollar 4 ft 4 lamp T-8 flourescent from home depot or lowes,its working well for me.I've recently stopped a perpetual grow so I never kept moms,but I'm keeping pheno's in veg and the flo's are working well.With my HID's they will become "overgrown".I have 2 fixtures hung side by side to make a 250-400 dollar 4 ft 8 lamp T-8 horticultural fixture haha,stagger daylight 6500K and warm white 3000K for best results.I've always used these for vegging cuts for the first week or so but I think they'll make a fine mom type lighting deal.I don't think medium really matters,whatever you're comfortable working with I would say.I use ocean forest

spray the mum with "Nitrozyme" it will create lots of new shoots that become clones

2 mil per litre spray ,everywhere at night,every night for 1 week ... it WILL bush out when the new shoots start coming out ... around 2 weeks. when they reach 8-10 " snip the tip of the last shoot them spray with nitrozyme ..the more you snip and spray the more stock you will get ...

you can turn a mum that produces 10 clones into mum that produces 40-50 in about 8 weeks : ) keep it under a florecent light ...no HIDs

take a clone from the current huge mum root and train the new clone for a bonsai my bonsai mum is over 1yr old for the most part i followed the instructions in the bonsai thread to a T. normally i use 3 x 17 w 2 ft singel bulb fluro from walmart advertised as growlight. the 54w in fluro done a surperb job keepn the mum going great and rooting and cuts i took.
