Nice doobie! How do you get the black backgrounds?

I've been wondering about this as well. The dark background really makes the bud shine out. Elevator Man does the same and both your pics are outstanding! Thanks for sharing, man!

Backgrounds

Backgrounds

Thanks everyone for your views and replies, more to come very soon. As for the background question, first, I use natural foilage when I can, but it never seems dark enough or in the right position for most captures, shooting outdoors in the harsh sunlight has its extremes and difficulties in getting a good shot. In my studio..foilage not possible at all. I am painting a piece of muslin that I am going to try soon. Second, I want to capture and show the plant in the best possible way I can. Using dark backgrounds like this really make the buds pop, it enhances the depth of field, helps with lighting problems, and I've never got anything but good comments about images captured with these. I have purchased a 12' x 8' piece of black felt that I use on a stand to place behind the subject. Felt works well as long as you don't have direct lighting or flash bouncing back off it. See Ya soon...DD

Hey compadres many thanks for all your comments. I have been swamped doin pix. I have more from this girl and am capturing some macros now as well. Soon I'll get those up so don't think I've deserted this thread-please. This is an image shot today of the seed she produced with my Jolly Bud male as the father. The blackest seed I've ever seen. The Jolly female turned real nice purple in the very late flowering outdoors with some fridged temps so I look for these to make some fantastic models for my next years shoots. See Ya soon..DD

Beautiful pics, I just got Zerene stacker software for stacking the in-focus portion of photos to manipulate DOF in macro shots... and an old Canon 50 f3.5 macro w/1:1 ext. tube. Now I just have to wait a few more weeks for the buds to form. I'll also try some bud "portraits" with a 85mm f1.8...

As far as a black background I just got a piece of duvatine (sp?), it's a fabric used to make black backdrops in theaters, is non-reflective, light-tight and cheap...
