Cracked Seed with black/brown root?

hey guys, 2 new seeds, my standard way of germination.
soaked for less then 24hours. both seeds sink.

transfer them to shotglass. 1 seed per shotglass, between two moist cottonballs.

seed#1 cracked, tiny white root poking out. very tiny.

seed#2 cracked less, tiny BLACK/BROWN root = Sick, dampening off?

i dropped one on the floor yesterday due to butterfinger stupidity, could it be unsterile conditions? any possible explaination is welcome.

im thinking cause it made contact with the floor. please help, thanks people

Shot glasses don't have drainage holes, so you have to have to watch your watering. Sounds like it may have got damping off due to soil being moist.

You can grow successfully in shot glass, but you have to learn how to water correctly and not have any excess.

Floor is a lot of germs, but what is your watering habits like? how wet was the soil?
The roots are supposed to stay white, they have to stay moist, otherwise they will turn brown from fungus, or from it drying out, the tail wilters from no moisture if it's a underwatering problem.

hi
they havent seen any soil yet. i am in the process of germinating them.

paper-towel-and-plate method.....exept my tools are: shotglasses and cotton swabs.

im watching the seeds crack and noticing the tiny root coming out is black/brown on one of them.

but then again it can also be a microscopic shaving of the seed husk stuck to the root.

i posted cause i dropped the seed and thought my one action f###ed things up, but i also understand that its too early to tell.

all thoughts are welcome. thanks.

Oh I see now, you confused me lol.

I would not worry about it right now, just make sure they keep moist in the towels and you won't have a problem.

thanks for the quick responses people.

i was just watching them too closely. what i thought was a brown root was really a fragment of the seed shell. got 2 for 2 germ rate so far JoeyNLs.
