Couple Ideas For a 2x2 sog tent

Done a lot of reading on here that helped me through my last grow, and as planning for my next grow.

Some history...
My last grow box was a micro grow in a box 13inx13inx28in. 9 plant SOG in solo cups. 4 42w CFLs (3 2500k 1 6500k). Averaged 7-10 g per plant.

Before that I worked on a number of other SOG grows with friends and business partners.

I currently have a 2x2 space and plan on buying a grow tent to start growing again.

Now for the questions.
I will either use 1 250w HPS and grow one layer of SOG in 1 gal grow bags and veg for a weekish

Or cut the space in half and do 2 shelves each with 36ish solo cups straight from clone, but with 2'x4tube T5 fixtures and a couple single t5 fixtures for side light.

I feel like the 250w would give me fewer bigger plants, but less often. The T5 set up will give me more, smaller plants more often.

Any thoughts on this? I'm leaning towards the shelf grow, but would like to know what others thinks (also I will have a separate mother/clone/veg (maybe) box).

I was actually thinking about going for the 2x2.5 tent from gorilla tent if I go for the shelf grow so 7-9 ft (enough room for 3 3' shelves!!!), if not the growlab GL60 so 5'4"

I just checked these gorilla grow tents out...that 2x2.5 sells for around $220...for that price you could get a 3x3x6 secret jardin DR90II or a3x3x7 secret jardin DR90 Twin. The DR90 Twin has separate veg/clone/mother section up top as well as separate ventilation from the flower section on the bottom.I would recommend the DR90 Twin as building light proof.sections in a regular tent will be tough and cost more money for more parts/materials.

Check out the DR90T @ Amazon

They only cost $10-$15 more than the gorilla tent but you get more room.

Lazyeye/Lathund has a grow diary using a DR90T with a 600w HPS.You can ask him what he thinks about that tent.

DR90Twin 600W Blue Cheese

Otherwise I'f look into building a cab like:

Or

Each section having it's own door so as to keep light from getting into the flower area during lights off.

You can obviously change that bottom cab up to suit your needs as well, turning one section into a utility section that holds your ballast etc.

Must not have been very clear. I will have separate mother/clone boxes. Already have a box for the mothers, and will make a clone/veg box out of a rubbermaid. I only have 31in so a 3ft tent won't work for me without some serious renovation (knocking out an adobe wall).

My current options are
1) Go with a 2x2x5ish tent with 4 big plants and veg/flower in the tent with a hps and some cfls or t5s. (not my favorite)
2) Go with a 2x2x5ish tent with a shelf half way up and go straight from clone to flower in a solo cup SOG under t5s (getting closer)
3) Go with the Gorilla tent and put a shelf half way up and veg in the rubbermaid for about a week and transfer to 1gal grow bags SOG under t5s
4) Gorilla tent split into 1/3s go straight from clone to flower in a solo cup SOG under t5s

I want to have a more regular supply than a big one all at once, so option one is out

So, my main q is would it be worth it to get the taller tent and add another shelf / flower in bigger bags after some veg

Or go with the smaller tent and do a more reasonable grow.

I LOOOVE to do option 3 under 150w HPS, but I feel like heat would be a serious issue, especially for the top shelf.

Side note, all 3 shelves would be on identical time cycles, so light leakage between shelves isn't that big of deal.

But, thanks for the tips! If I were to be doing everything in one cab it would look an awful lot like the first picture you linked

2' x 2.5' tent with a 250w HPS,if using 6" square pots you should be able to fit 20 plants, use 4" square pots or beer cups and you can squeeze in 40-45 plants.I'd use freshly rooted clones or clones with a week or two veg, plan tp flip around 4"-6" tallso plants finish around 1' tall.Depending on ambient temps and ventilation you might be able to build a shelf in there and use 2x 250w HPS's,one per shelf 40-90 plants total in flower, each shelf 30-35 days apart from each other for a harvest every 30-35 days.

A 250w HPS will land you right at recommended minimum of 50w per sq ft.

I used to run a mills pride c-13 prefab closet that was 2' x 2.5' x 6' and used a 400w HPS in it (80w per sq ft)...had plans to make a shelf in there and use 2x 250w HPS's,one per shelf, each section 30 days apart running a 60-65 day strain, never got around to it though, just stepped up to a larger area.

Here's a few pics of the old prefab with some plants in it so you can get an idea of how much/little space there is...

So the 2x 250's wouldn't be too hot? What would be the best way to cool them?

I might get the 2x2.5 and a 250 for the first run and make sure it will be possible to keep it cool enough. Might be that I go with a 250w HPS for the top shelf and t5, cfl, or LED set up on the bottom shelf.

From my previous solo cup grows, I found that vegging for more than a few days didn't help at all. Got the same weight/day as just going straight to flower + my plants never looked as healthy (less dense buds, less frost, root ball squeezed in so tight I was surprised there was room for the soil)

2 x 2 = 400w and a 4in" can fan and filter. 5k A/C in top of cab for summer. 9 plants in 1.7 gal rose buckets...vegged in party cups then transplanted and flipped. Grow the right plants and you get 15" colas on 30" plants averaging 14-25g per plant, again, depending on strain of course.

If I had 2 x 2 - that is how I'd utilize it, personally.

AC isn't really an option where I live. Not enough humidity. A swamp cooler would be a better option for me, but would that add too much humidity to the grow?

I'll probably stick with a party cup SOG, but I might/probably will try the 1.5 gal bucket for a comparison run

So the 2x 250's wouldn't be too hot? What would be the best way to cool them?

What will the day & night time ambient temps be (ambient temperature is the air temperature of the room that the grow tent will be in and draw it's fresh air from)?

One should always ask themselves these key questions before setting up a grow...

1) How much space will I use?
2) How much light will I need to supply adequet lighting?
3) How hot/cold will I allow the temps in the tent and ambient room get?

Answers in your case...

1) 5 sq feet/roughly 50 cubic feet
2) 250w
3) Figure the highest you'll allow lights on temps in the tent is 80°F and the lowest temp you want in the tent lights off is 65°F...check this chart...
picture.php

Note the brown line denotes a 250w HPS,the numbers along the bottom of the graph shows temperature rise over ambient temps, numbers on the side of the graph denote airflow around/over the bulb.Notice 200cfm of airflow only allows a 4°F rise in the tent above ambient temps;*graph does not account for duct/pressure losses...

I like to go the route of knowing ambient temps in the room my tent sits in is stable at 68°F-72°F 24/7 that eay I can just say to myself "I want a fan powerful enough to keep lights on temp inside the tent no more than 10°F above ambient temps".Then all I have to do is find the wattage I'm using on the graph, find the point that this loadline crosses the 10°F line and find the corresponding airflow rate in cfm to aquire this.

So in short, find out what ambient temps will be and use the chart, but remember the graph does not account for losses due to bends in the ducting,or for long runs of ducting, pressure losses due to carbon filters or too small a passive intake etc. so find the airflow in cfm that you'll need to keep things cool, and when matching a fan & filter buy one that has a minimum filtered airflow rate of what is needed to keep your grow cool,go with a slightly larger fan and filter then you think you need and just run it on a speed controler.

I would recommend 600 watt LED in a 2x2 tent.

2x2 tent

600 watt LED

10" canfan exhaust into 10" carbon filter resting on top of tent.(Reverse to save space and still kills odor

3x 5 Gallon Rootmaker AirPots

Medium: Canna Cocco

Nutrients: Canna line

LED is 12 inches from scrog net (no burn)

Watering every three days.

ph:5.5 ec level 1.8

Strain: White Widow Auto x2 and one Northern Lights Auto.

If you think you cant scrog autos look up Auto Mazar Scrog
