Look on your bill and see what it cost per kilowatt hour. A 1000 watt light is going to use 1 kilowatt per hour. Somehere on here there's a chart for figuring power usage.

its going to vary, state by state. and in my area, season by season.

in my area (the south west coast), i noticed a jump of about $80 a month for 18hrs on.

At my rate, .07/kwh, it costs $25.20 per month to run my 1kw HPS 12/12.

do you have a baseline in your area?

i have went over my baseline quite a bit before. thats really the only thing you have to be worried about. the cost of running these things on the regular electricity prices in my particular area is really nothing to be worried about. its when you go above the baseline limit that you start to get your legs pulled out from under you :badday:

Wow, 100 bucks is a ton for 1 light 12/12! Mine works out to a tad less than 40 bucks a month in the NE/Mid-Atlantic Area. That figure also includes my blowers, fans, etc., but not A/C or heat. I run A/C in the summer in my veg/clone room, but I'll be moving that underground as well soon, since I just ripped out an old coal bin in the grow house, and am working towards having my entire operation down there.

Actually, mine was so cheap that I'm working on a flip-flop now to run 2 rooms at the same time.

Around $100 a month for one 1k light in so cal for 12/12.
that would equate to like .30c a kw.

i think your going over a basline to get those kinds of prices.

.15c x 12hr x 30days = $54

.20c x 12hr x 30days = $72

your probably looking around the 15-20c max rates (area dependent). i think some people are thinking their lights cost X amount of dollars because they are adding it on top of their regular electrical usage which could make them go over baseline and get the more extreme prices. then they see the extreme price and think its the light thats causing it, when in actuality its the fact that the light brought you over the baseline.

for example my $80 a month price was for the light, 1 fan, a refrigerator, my tv, and miscellaneous lights around the apt. when i got raped for about $230 1 month was when i constantly ran my central a/c for the apt. as you can see, it jumped me up WAYYY past the baseline and i got my legs kicked out from under me. remember thats $230 for an apartment with just those things listed. well i had a couch too, but its not like that takes up electricity :bashhead:

Hey George
When you start going over 200% baseline, it adds up. Part of the reason I figure around $100 is the fact that I do live at the current grow site and that probably adds to the over baseline charges also. Around .30 a KW sounds about right for my area just running only one light. Total bill is between $120 - 140 a month at the site with 12/12. What a rip, but what can you do.
