Correct way to tie down plants??

Hey, some of my sativas are already growing within a foot of my 1000w and I am still veggin so I would like to tie them down. Can I just tie a piece of twine around the main stem at the top of the plant and bend it over tying the other side of the string to the side of the pot? Should the main stalk then be pointing towards the ground or pointing east/west? Or is there a more scientific way to do this? Thanks

tie your main top to the plant bottom, use large loops so you dont stranglel her... the main stem should be bent at 90 degrees so the plant takes a 'L' postion..

use the plastic coated garden twine ,not the string stuff ,,if the string gets wet it can lead to stem and bud rot

How old is she and how much room do you have? Even with tying her down you might still have problems, if she still in veg and already so close to ur light :chin:

I'm with Alex..420ofcourse if you are still veggin...man those girls are going to want to go way past the light when they stretch in flowering...I'd top um or tie um down now, before the stalk gets to big..and go flip to 12/12 immediately..I just got done fighting some sativas...the end result wasn't pretty..They still might have been OK if I had repoted one more time, but that would have added more height too...the plants start out slow but start to accelerate in growth and it can get out of hand real quick in a tight place...I was almost having to break them over everyday in flower..one plant was mostly made into hash, because the buds were so wispy from me contiually having to break them over..then new growth would start..nearly 100 bud sites..the plant was not able to provide all those sites..And I still had to move them, even after all the breaking :badday:

Don't let this happen to you!

Grow-Is it that simple? I would like it to be but others are saying I may have trouble.
Hazy-Good call, I would have used the wrong kind.
Alex-She is about 7 weeks from seed, I have about 12 inches to light.
Pack-That sucks, I was under the impression that the plant would bush out and not hardly grow in height, once tied down. Resulting in fat buds that were just sideways. That wispy shit sucks.

Anyone still get fat buds just on a bent over plant?? Thanks

It will work out like you are saying if you do it early...you might be able to still do it...all that happened to me because I kept doing it late into flower...here's a clone I'm growing LST (Low Stress Training) right now...the hormones, called auxins determine the highest point on the plant and concentrate growth there. Here is Caprichoso's thread on LST LST Growing In Detail
