Cooperating with police - dillemma

I've got a small dilemma, today upon arriving to the office I had a call from the local police department to assist with a scam investigation.

I hate net scammers, and I hate cops.

I'm not sure which I hate more.

Should I help them?

My first thought is to not aid any organization which I view as criminal.

That was my first thought, but it would be pure unadulterated paranoia.

no, dont help them. Remember , these are the same police that if they found your grow or some pot would throw you in jail. Yet they want your help? i say **** em. They got a job to do and get paid for it and so do you. You aint a cop and dont get paid to be one so dont bother. Never help them , cuz when it all goes down they wont help you.

If you do help em, it's not gonna change a thing anyway. It's not like scamming would stop if this one investigation was successful.
The only way scamming online will stop is if the people get a clue and stop falling for the bullshit they cram up your asses.

Yes, all valuable points. **** the police. **** retards falling for scams.

Usually the driving force to falling for these scams is plain and simple greed.

**** them. Thank you all.

**** that. They get paid to do their job... sounds like they are slacking... my bank found a scammer why can't they . Sucks for the person that got scammed but what if that person sent a few grand to Nigeria or something real ****ing stupid... your going to risk your shit for them? It's sad cops need help doing their own jobs...

tricky situation, personally I avoid cops if I can, but it depends on the situation
think of it this way what if it was a member of your family being scammed
would you still tell the cops you wouldn't help

Mr. Nevermind has a reply that took the words straight out of my...fingers lol. I wouldn't help them at all. Not all police are bad police, some actually are against the war on drugs and everything they do is just strictly business but still until things change I would let them figure stuff out on their own.

I don't like cops, but some things they do actually are good. If innocent people are getting their money ripped from them, I think you should reconsider. We have no idea how you are involved, but if your business is being used by someone to hurt people, does it reflect upon you. OP was right when he says you should look at all the facts and then decide. Just don't decide not to help due to your hate of Leo. Someone may need your help.

These schemers generally attack the elderly and others not savvy with the net. I would ask them what it involves and if innocents are getting hurt badly, it might be a good idea to stop them. Either way, remember, a cops a cop......

Seems odd they are asking for your help anyway, Assuming you work with other people, must be someone that works for the same company you do doing the scamming...uuummmmm......... just a thought

I'm the network engineer here. There isn't a better person to ask at this consulting firm, so I wouldn't be worried about that. They didn't ask specifically for me, but forwarded to me by coworkers because, well, no better to ask.

I'm just gonna play the game of non-response, should work out fine as I'm guessing he was simply calling around.

i think your argument is a bit misguided. you are setting up the situation as the net scammer vs the police. but this is not the case (or {if victim = police, then :biglaugh:end} lol). it's the net scammer vs the victim. the police aren't an important factor obviously. imagine it more as the victim coming to your for help through the police. so who do you help? the victim or the net scammer.

granted the police should have someone of your caliber or even better but they don't.

Very good argument you pose there, and I agree with it 100%.

I just wish it wasn't the same police department that I've seen blatently disregard court orders when presented, I wish it wasn't the same police department that seemingly made it a habit of pointing weapons at me in my teenage years for being at a party, or *gasp* working late.

I wish you had posted earlier as the day is out, and I may have reconsidered.

i agree with you totally but i think we all have to realize that not all cops are bad. it's just the bad ones make it hard to tell who the good ones are because they're all wearing the same "gang colors". it's unfortunate that marijuana is against the law BUT IT IS AGAINST THE LAW. but so is murder, theft, assault and battery, and a shit load of other activities that are considered crimes they do put themselves in harms way to protect people who don't have the means to protect themselves like net scammers.

we can get into a whole political discussion about it but its not necessary in this case. but at some point the enemy of my enemy is my enemy. so we work together. even on this site. a lot of us may not see eye to eye on a lot of issues, but when it comes to this one common thing - marijuana - we support each other in ways our own blood wouldn't even step forward to do.

put aside the differences over marijuana, grab your spiked bat, and go bash in the skull of that son of a bitch who just robbed someone's grandmother of her life savings because right now you're the ****in man for the job. now go strap on your cape cuz a meteor is coming to planet earth and lex luthor has a plan that will save us all. LOL.
