Cooltube....Reflection

Hi guys.
Got a small question regarding the cool tube. I bought one from a supplier not long ago. It's a 600w sitting in a home box....anyway I upgraded from a 400w jet stream and to tell the truth I kinda think I get more light from the 400w. It just seems to me that the cooltube dosn't reflect light well enough.

Anyway my question is this.....Has anyone out there got any iteas on how to reflect light more efficiently with a cooltube. If anyone one else has had this problem how have they sorted it out???

Cheers guys!!!!!

James

My Cool Tube came with wings that you clamp around the tube to disperse the light downward. Did yours come with two long pieces of aluminum and two U shaped bands? If so, those are your wings.

Personally I'd rip that crappy foil out of the top. Dismantle an old regular reflector so you're left with just the reflective part without the bulb socket and frame.
Get some bendy wire, thread it through the holes at each end of the reflector (the screw holes) and hang it above the cooltube right in the center.

I used my amazing artistic skills to show you what I mean...just coz I felt like it :D

Ive seen that discussed before but it required the light to pass through the glass multiple times thus reducing the intensity. If you use the wings the cool tube throws a nice footprint.

btw, not bad mspaint drawing :)

Im running a 600 in a cool tube as well and im not impressed with the light canopy at all. I should have just spent the extra money on an air cooled hood.

i rigged my air cooled hood so it sits on top of the cool tube...its not perfect but it's better than nothing....the cooltube w/ no reflector wasted too much light bouncing off the cieling. tin sheeting is pretty cheap and it's not too hard to build a reflector.

I ditched my cooltubes. (staring at one now with an 1/2" dust)
A shame too. I waited so long for their price to drop and then bought two of the big premium ones.
I swear I was getting half the brightness.
I picked up some econo-cool hoods and couldn't be happier.
Stay peaceful

only thing i can think of is an interal reflector. external reflectors make the light pass through the glass twice eating lumans

I didn't get any wings with it......I might try knocking one up myself. If you look at the pictures I've added you can see the reflector is inside the tube itself....I'm kinda getting the feeling the cool tubes are abit wank. I've got a jet stream reflector. This is a 400w. I should be able to rig it up to 600w but I'm a little concerned if the wait will be held by the home box.
I think I'll wait until my latest crop is finished and then have a play around.
Cheers guys

I have 600 watt hps running in a cool tube to and im not happy with the foot print they have. I got mine from mdhydro and got the clamp on deflector along with an internal reflector

Heres a pic of mine with the wings. Wouldnt be rocket science to make some.

Its the same as betterboy's. I dont have any complaints about the footprint. Its adjustable!?

I'm guessing you're using one or the other, right? :)
