Cooling Gavita Pro 1000e

Hey guys I was just talking with a sales rep from Surna about cooling my new place and she was saying something crazy like I should count on 7000 btu's of heat for every 1000W Gavita. Is this true or is she just trying to sell me extra tons of cooling to increase her sales?

not trying to be provocative at all. just adding my .02 that
some people are saying use 5000 or 6000 per 1000 DE light.

I've seen alot of posting like that. dunno what is and what isn't true but 1000W of electricity is 1000W, light fixture source may layer in some inefficiencies for sure. I wouldn't expect DE's to require 30 or 40+ % more to cool. but DE's are fairly efficient (my epap gens just around 60W i think of used power that turns into extra heat with no benefit. 60W light bulb should not scare anyone

7000 seems a little high to me though.

i have a 5 ton bryant residential unit that cools 12 perfectly @ 1150 setting with co2 burning and a quest 105 dual. I am running 16 in a larger space with the same unit, and it is barely keeping up. I think 12 may be the perfect number for my 5 ton.

I think that adding an extra 1000 per light is smart when figuring in co2, dehuey etc... If you get a mini-split with inverter, your dehuey load will be decreased significantly. McKush- when factoring in poor insulation, additional equipment etc..., 5000 would seem reasonable.

Heya Chef - agree. I can see 5 to 6 per but 7 seems a stretch and the AC may not run enough and cause it to cycle on and off too frequently. But im no expert and it may depend a bit on the size of room and # of lights for the rule to apply. You def want to try to size it so the AC runs long enough.

The best minisplit thread is a good one for The Beav.

5000 btus is the standard number most people use, also keep in mind that air cooling DE hoods is kinda pointless, as they need heat to run at the right color twmperature. Therefore, an air cooled DE hood removes about 1000 btu, leaving 4000 btus for your ventilation system to deal with. Dont bother.
