Cooling for my box?

R

Reinhold

Hey guys, I recently built a cab, with a flowering chamber about
2.5"w x 3"h x 2"d

So a tad small for the light, I bought a 1000w with intentions on a much larger room, but due to problems I'm going to grow in the cab.

I also have this cooltube hooked up to the light.

Also forgot to tell about ventilation, I have the cooltube hooked up to one of those stanley blower type fans thats on the outside of the box, blowing cold in from a AC unit right by the fan. It blows in the box at the top, the down to cooltube, and the back out the top. Maybe it should be sucking the air? I just thought it'd be better to blow cold air into the tube.

I also have a fan in the cab, a rotating blade one. Currently the temps got up to 85.

This is a pretty ghetto grow due to money situations, I pretty much used what I had. The ducting is this black insulated shit kinda blows. I'll try to get pics but for now Im open to suggestions.

Thanks for any help

ThEDIT, Im also really high so... :sasmokin:

if this is your first grow and you plan on continue growing, i recommend getting a vortex type of fan meant for exhausting. a 6inch fan would more than do the trick. they are expensive (i'm sorry if this isn't the answer you wanted), but its a one time investment that will change your plants drastically.

someone else will need to reply about how to set up the cool tube. i use a cool hood. good luck with the grow, and try not to let em get to hot.

Yes, I do need a vortex fan just currently don't have the money to spend on one. Just wondering if there was any way to get by without this time? If worse comes to worse I suppose I can open the cab door when the lights are on, and shut it when there off.

I got the cooltube hooked up right but now sometimes it takes a bit to turn on, like it'll sit there then turn on. Could this be because the connections arn't connected good enough?

I don't really want to do that though and dont know if I'd be home in time to shut the door, but maybe if I figured out a certain time I can shut it when I get home from work lol

Hello all,

Gotta say that you are blowing hot air into your box the way the vent system is now.

Yes you should be sucking through the cooltube (then through a C.F. if possible) and out.

The fact you have an AC to suck cold air is a help but I think if you can route your cold air in to the bottom and suck from the top would be best given the general discription of your box.

just my 2 ducketts,

Yes, sucking is a must! Hot air out of the top, and cool air entering at the bottom. However, even with a good cooltube, I've yet to see anyone use a 1000watter in a space that small and have it at the right temps. My first investment would be in a properly sized light.

I'm using a stanley blower to vent my cab also. It's fairly big at 4 by 3 by 6'. I have the fan "pulling" air thru top with vents at the bottom. It works very well. That is a lot of light for your size cab. However, IMO, a stanley would be plenty to cool a 1K light mounted in a cool tube and a lot cheaper than a vortex fan. With a little work & a inexpensive trip to the home inprovement, Your stanley can be modified to pull air . If You haven't already check out "dopest's stanley mod thread. Let us know what you come up with!

Well I can already get temps down to 65 if I crack open the door, ok Ill see if I can route the cold air into the bottom and then vent out the top. Yeah I've seen the stanley thread, and thats why I gave it a shot. If I can get things going in this small cab that'd be sweet lol with a 1000.
Thanks for the help guys.

Well, added a hole to the bottom, and a fan on the outside to draw air from the ac and push it towards the bottom of the box and then in.

Currently have temps down to 70, so all is looking good so far.

lol yeah pipedream, Im pretty astonished I pulled it off, getting it all setup and everything lol

Only bad thing is the noise, due to the fans, but hey security isn't really a problem for me and as long as I can get some good medicine it'll be worth it.
