Cooling a closet

Just a newbie here

I have a closet about 5x3x1.5 and I'm looking to use an inline fan to cool my 400w HPS. I was taking a look at the Suncourt 4" Inline Fan (80CFM) and I'm curious to know if this would be enough to keep my closet cool? There is another inline fan for about 5 bucks more, except its 6". Are there any adapters I can use to make it fit my lamp?

Right now there's 0 ventilation, and my closet is VERY hot. I'd say maybe 90+ degrees and I'm thinking it's stunting plant growth quite a bit.

Thanks!

I'm using a bathroom fan, 80 cfm, in my closet 400w system. I put the ballast in the attick and ran the lampcord through the ceiling. With the exhaust and the ballast out of the room, I'm still getting temps around 85.

I recently purchased the 6in suncourt in-line fan 150CFM to cool my 400W in a cool tube. It does just OK but ya get what you pay for......i would try and get the next one up from what I got.....i believe it is still a 6in and only a couple $$ more. Any hardware store should have a 6in to 4in reducer.

Screw inline fans. Noisy and inefficient. I use a 252 CFM Fantech FX6 Centrifugal Fan around my entire 10x10 room, including the 4x6x8 closet that's sealed off with 8 mil black plastic, and maintain 55% humidity and 68 F temps all day long. That things like a jet engine. You can get any adapter you need to run a 4" duct off of the main line to your lights. To really cool that light, I'd recommend a 4" centrifugal fan. It's compact, 4", quiet and extremely efficient. You can place the fan directly over an a/c vent and blast cold air directly over the light. They are 4-5 times the price of a Suncourt, but you get what you pay for.

Im totally with Maj.Pothead here I have a 400w flowering tent I built id say its probly 5Lx3Wx6H and my stanley blower vents it no problem on the lowest setting :yoinks: :yoinks: ! I mean for the price this thing is the shit I can see the suction when i turn it on it clears the air in there so fast. So I mean for a closet I think this is your answer 40$ at your local walmart and it can be modded to and Inline or pretty much for anything.

Just look at the Stanley Fan Mod thread that MP linked and that will show you how to make it inline and give you parts lists etc very cheap effective mod.

Heres a pic of mine ghetto rigged but it works took like 5 min to hookup

How quiet are those blowers? Noise is just as much of a concern as light and smell for most people. I suppose if you aren't too serious, these would be a cheaper alternative. I'll stick with the centrifugals. A little more money, but I think they're worth every penny.

the noise level isnt really bad my 95cfm blower fan for carbon scrubber makes more noise. go to a walmart or hardware store around and check them out

my scrubber isnt in there when these pic where taken. but it now sits above and behind the hood. i draw air from outside the cab through hood over bulb and mogul and exhaust directly into attick no smell from this exhaust. my cabs inside exhaust hooked to carbon scrubber gose through wall and into a hallway pantry towel closet. in my main bathroom my closet and bedroom is on 1 wall, lightly you can hear my 95cfm fan but i couldnt hear the stanely before the smaller fan was bought. but like i suggested check it out next time your at 1 of them stores ive read of few ppl usen the stanely with 600w hps. i may try it with 2 400's.

du du duuuuu stonedhimizers moment lol

cooling your lighting is only part of the key to controling your grows temps, proper ventilation is a must exchange 3-5 times rooms air each min. on my cab i have a black ABs/PVC 4inch 90 degree elbow in the bottom of right side. air is pulled passivly not forced through the cab and my scrubber pulls it out from the mid over to left side top of cab. this 6inch fan blows across the hood

these 2 small 3 inch fans each front corner blow across the doors

they run 24 hrs day 7 days a wk never turned off unless power outtage it can be over 115 degrees outside during july and aughust inside house 80-82 and cab never gets above 84. becaue of the climate i live in i run my flower dept at night 6pm-6am 365 days a yr. a 1k light would require a air conditationer in the closet itself along with everything else

I have a lot of circulation in my grow and it seems to make a big difference on those hot days. And you can get a lot more humph out of your circulation fan by taking the protective grill off of it. Try it...

All good tips here. M reflector doesn't have any glass or vent holes or anything of the sort, and I'm guessing I'm going to need glass to contain the heat - what kind of glass should I look into and how would I attach it to the reflector? A sealant?

Unless you're pretty good at working with metal, I would just spring for the vented reflectors. Although, I'm always the one here advocating spending more money. That's just me, though.

From my personal experience, I can tell you that it's not worth it going DIY for reflectors and fans. Well it could be for some people but if you are like me, you are not going to be satisfied with it an you are going to end up havin to buy the material for the DIY plus the real thing later on.

I am using a dayton squirrel cage fan 146CFM that I got from ebay for 23$. It is not too noisy but the performance isn't there. After this harvest, I'll probably buy an in-line fan such as the eco-plus 4 inch model which moves 170 CFM.
