Uh...a 250w puts off less heat than a 400. A 400 less than a 600. A 600 less than a 1k... etc etc etc...

There are plenty rests done on bulb heat. And also a bare bulb will run cooler than one mounted in a hood unless it's air cooled. But if you have the height in my opinion epaps run the coolest. I have two operating now in place of 4 hps 1000w and can't complain. So just in that regards less bulbs less heat. Also the reflecter is designed to draw heat away from bulb, is this true? Don't know but my room runs hella cooler! My 2cents

hmm ive got air cooled bulbs but they still give off heat. especially since they are 1ks. im just wondering if there is a particular bulb which I should look out for, im not familiar with epaps. thanks for the reply :)

interesting question, will speak to some people tomorrow see what I can find out, though I'd be surprised if any one brand was significantly cooler than another

Epapillon 1000w double ended reflector. The reflector is designed to pull heat away from bulb can stand right under them and its not burning my ass up. Like was mentioned before as far as the actual bulb temp1000w is a 1000w. Want less heat try a 600watter. Or go with led, not my first choice but you want less heat.

the fan is big enough, im already pulling in cold air but heat builds up during the day so for the last few hours of 12/12 it gets slightly high. so its not really worth lowering the wattage since its only the last few hours.

Right now till my new agro bulbs come in I have a couple cfl's in the room with my 1k and I have the timer set so that every so often the hps shuts off for 15 min while to cfl's stay on so they plants stay in photoperiod while the room can cool down a little. Might be worth setting up something like that for your last few hours. Kinda simulating clouds.

If I was gonna stick with hps I'd get a gavita, they have a master controller you can get that will dim the light if the temps get too high.

I'd get a gavita too but i was just speaking to someone who reckons its more to do with the efficiency of the ballast as opposed to anything the bulb itself does
