Cooking with Hemp Oil and Hemp Seed Butter

Hi guys,

I just bought some cold pressed hemp seed oil and hemp seed butter. Oh is this ever nice stuff!!! The oil has a bright green color the same as when I infuse olive oil with bud. It has a nice flavour too! I'm planning to use this in salads.

The hemp seed butter tastes something like peanut butter with a stronger hemp flavour. It goes great on toast. It has all good fats and no salt or additives and is high in protien too. I'll never eat Kraft peanut butter again :p

Does anyone know if you can cook with these products? I know the hemp oil must be kept in the fridge or it will go rancid at room temps?

I'd like to infuse some really top notch Thai-Lights bud with the butter and oil and don't want to waste any of these superb ingredients.

Has anyone tried this?

I wouldn't cook with it, hemp oil is very delicate.

Something that I haven't tried yet, but plan to, is making pot-coconut-butter. Coconut butter is high in saturated fat like ordinary butter and can take high heat nicely. It seems as if it'd work well.

I found out that the hemp oil shouldn't be heated above 350*F. I think I can do the extraction using a double boiler since the temps are below that but the oil will likely oxidize some in the process.

I've been to a Naturapathic doctor recently who's really helped me out with my allergies and I've lost 20 lbs in the last two months on the elimination diet. She recommended using Canola and a few other good oils for me to use and to avoid corn and safflower oils.

I definately wouldn't use coconut oil due to the high saturated fat content but it does remain stable for high temperature cooking. I guess you really shouldn't be frying food.

For some reason, she said stay away from olive oil. I always thought EEVO was the shit! Apparently it doesn't have the best ratio of the good fats, Omega 3's and 6's. Hemp oil is suppossed to have the best ratio of good fats of all the oils.

I think for now I'm going to make up a batch of medicinal olive oil for electric salad dressing and use the hemp oil for normal salads whenever possible.
