Convert Closet or Get Tent?

Hi Everyone!

I'm new to these forums, but not forums :)

I have been in a month long dilemma that needs to be solved once and for all.

I currently have 10 Green Crack plants Vegging, 1 of them a mother. I'm growing with Rockwool watering by hand. The mama's in soil.

What I need help with is do I convert my Closet which is 5'x5'x8' or do I buy a nice big 4x4x7 tent and stick it in the closet?

If I convert the closet I would need a Flower room inside it so that I can get my cycle started.

Should I build a home made flower room/set up in my closet and rig the door for ventilation so that I can veg/flower simultaneously and with the door closed? Or should I buy two smaller tents say 63"x48"x24"? so that I can place two tents in my closet, 1 foot apart? This limits the height of my plants which I do not want to deal with and creates a dual ventilation hassle for me.

Or should I get 1 4x4 tent and do one cycle at a time?

Personally I feel like I should make my own Flower box set up within the closet so that I could use the rest of it to Veg without having to build another Grow Box or getting a second tent type deal.

For now I am stuck with just the closet but would like to utilize it to its maximum capabilities.

The tent allows maximum environmental controls and is the easiest path to take with just one purchase and a day of set up.

I really don't know what would be best for my babies.

I am leaning towards the home made grow box for flowering with in the closet but I would like some feedback please.

Who knows maybe some one's simple idea will be my eureka!

I appreciate your help Brothers and Sisters.

On the cons side of things those tents stick out like sore thumbs. If you are looking for stealth I would go with the closet conversion.

Thanks Devil.

I have professional cultivators mentoring me and we are going to convert the closet and build a custom Flower Box.

Mathematically the tent is a buzz kill due to my limited space.

A custom build can definitely make better use of space. I'm dealing with that now in a 4x6 space which is all I can use and I'm trying to fit flowering, veg, moms, cloning, etc.

You could look at a tent like the Secret Jardin Twin DR90T.

All in one grow station: Mother Plant, Propagation, Growing and Flowering. Allowing three possible configurations:

Propagation Top
Propagation Bottom
Independent side-by-side
Other Notes:

Hight light proofing--Level I
Mylar lined, highly reflective (95%)
Two culture spaces--removalbe
Thermically isolated panel between grow spaces.
Dimensions:

35.5" x 35.5" x 82.7"
Height Bottom: 59.1"
Height Top: 23.6"

Tent's are quick and easy, and priced competitively with what you can spend building out a custom space.

Sounds like the space is too small for a veg & flower room. I would use the whole closet to veg and then flip to flower, using the entire space. In this scenario, the mother plant would have to be kept separate under a florescent light. But that's just me. Your yield will be much greater if you flower the whole space.

if you go with a tent check out tents by GothamHydroponics........they look like SJ tents but better.

i have a 4x4 SJ and their tent looks better and its $100 cheaper than my SJ was.

a build out would be what id do......good luck

Converting your closet is am simple or hard as you make it out to be..doesnt have to be fancy, staple mylar on the interior walls, staple pandafilm on the door to the closet, cut a line and attach a tarp zipper, and then cut two holes on oppisite ends and attach ducting, bend the ducting several times.

Thats your lighthproof passive intake.

Cut a hole in the cieling of the closet, vent hot air to the attic.Theres your room..now you need lighths,pots,medium,nutrients..nice and simple.

Or if you really wanna do it big,get a tent AND use your closet.

I would build a shelf in the closet about 5' off the ground...veg in the shorter top compartment and flower in the taller bottom compartment (this would also accommodate an HID light) and vent both of them out through holes in the door....what would be even better if you can do it, is veg in the closet and flower in a tent out side the closet..if you have the ability that would give you more room, more weight, more plants...you get the idea...plus if you live somewhere cold the vented air is free heat in the winter!!

I have ran in closets, tents and cabinets and entire rooms and one thing I will never go back to is the closets unless I did the panda cab inside the closet because you will want to have a door open for air flow ( people talk about the attic access for exhaust but if you don't scrub it it is a pain ).

If I had to do a closet I would actually build a room inside of it so I can have the door open a crack or more AND it not look like a portal to another dimension due to the bright ass light beaming out lol.

i like tents better, lotsa holes already there for vents air, doors, its all been thought of, and they seem to gravitate to me, easy to trade for from people who are done growing in tents, quitting or expanding.

then again if u are hella crafty... go w the closet if its big enuff, shelf it up, knock some holes for intake and exhaust...

does that count as an answer?

I plan on Jiggsawing the door for ventilation. Also before any flowering can take place I need an A/C.

No room for a tent outside the closet but also little to no room for a good 4x4 tent in the closet.

I have a shelf on the right side 5 Ft high. Was going to clone on top, Veg underneath and then Flower across the closet in the Grow Box.

I Want a continuous cycle and not to veg, then flower, but I will speak to my help and see what they think of these ideas. Of course my situation is of little concern to them but they are sincere and give me sound advice like you guys.

I've been using Google Sketch up to figure out configurations, so I'm going to post sooner or later designs and schematics for layouts in the closet.

Thanks again everyone!

I'm planning on doing something similar but I have a closet for veg, mother, clones and a tent in the room... If I could have done it over again, I would have made one side veg and one side flower... With the way you are planning it, you are going straight from clone to flower which should have smaller plants...

I have a SJ and one of the ones by Gotham Hydroponics, they dont even compare. The SJ really is that much nicer! No light leaks, other than the passive intakes. The Gotham one had leaks at EVERY place there was stitching!!!! I ended up having to cover it in panda film on the outside because it was impossible to get everything with duct tape. Other than that its pretty nice. The vent ports are the same as the SJ, but over it lacks the same quality.
