I have 10 Cindy's and 10 Apollo 13 in veg about 6 inches tall. The flower room stays cooler than where I veg them especially this time of year.I can veg them in metal halide or 1000W hortilux with better conditions.Ive never vegged under HPS.I can get a conversion lamp for 25 bucks on amazon anyone ever heard of elfin lamps?Sunmasters are like 100 bucks.Or would you just veg them out with the horties? These are bushy little plants well ready for 1K.Thanks folks

Veg with HPS you won't be disappointed.. I use my old ones from flower and run em till they burn out with good results

Thanks I remember stories on OG about not getting as tight an intermodal spacing with HPS always sounded fishy to me

That is probably someone who kept their light way off the plants.. i use a 400 watt hps for veg, and the small plants are about 18 inches or so away from the light... for a 1 kw id say 24 inches or so is fine provided the temps aren't way high

Man I have the horties about 15 inches above and they are killer 9 inch plants with stalks like a pencil already.I think conversion lamps are just a novelty

I flower with a hortilux super ace 940 hps conversion bulb that runs on an old school cap n coil 1000w halide ballast. It's a fuggen expensive bulb and almost no one uses it any more but it certainly isn't a novelty. MH has it's place and I like the ability of being able to pop in a 1000w halide , or the 940HPS conversion, and only need one ballast, cord and socket. I was also taught that in the larger rooms, dispersing halides among the HPS gives a better spectrum for trichome development but I don't have any claims to make there, just passing on what I've read/heard.

like to toss them in when flowering also and can recall having read the same thing but as I think back on it I will be damned if I can recall where. I prefer and do veg under MH, but will use what I have on hand

Well in my case 1K horties did just as good a job vegging as my 1K MH or my 800W combo. There is no difference that I can see.

If it were dedicated veg area, I'd say MH, but for mixed veg/flower room the difference is probably negligible.

Funny you should mention that one of my fixtures is a sun systems 800W combo.I love the dual spectrum but nothing beats 1K vertizontal fixtures for big buds
