Controlling pollen

J

Javadog

Hello all,

Searching for this topic was unsuccessful, but if there are good
threads that already deal with it, then please just post those if possible.

I am wanting to add seed making to my processes, but I am really
just getting started and want make sure that I do not end up
accidentally pollinating flowers.

There are two sources of pollen in my current setup, one branch of
my Somango mother was sprayed with colloidal silver and has made
male flowers.

The other is a set of new "mothers" that I will need to confirm the
sex of and separate accordingly. These plants are regular seeds of
Deadhead, Qrazy Train, and Blueberry BX. Presumably I will get
a male of one or more of these breeds. (I have confirmed at least
one female of DH and QT already ;0)

Now, my current concern is the Somango mother, as it is inside the
tent, fully covered with female flowers, along with all the flowering
AK-47s. I cut off the "male branch" before any balls popped, but
will need to keep an eye on the rest of this plant, to make sure
that no other branches make balls. I have a tin foil pollen-catcher
under the branch, standing in a bottle of water.

Now, what I hope we can discuss, and all apologies for the rambling
introduction, is how one can raise males to maturity without putting
the rest of crops at risk.

I am thinking that a separate grow box, with just a few CFLs in it,
and with a fan taking air out of it and forcing it through a filter,
might do the trick.

...but what do you all do?

Thanks in advance for the time.

JD
