container size

Since Im using promix I thought this might be a good place for this question...6x6 area with 600 watt hps..I want to put 6 plants in there.. is 3 gallon big enough...does yield size coincide with size of container to the same extent that amount of light does..and to what limit...Im sure if I have a 10 gallon bucket that will not automatically give me a pound of bud...or not... outdoor grower forced in ..limited knowledge on growing inside..

Hey there Rasta!

I'm very surprised that this question has not been answered yet to be honest, seems like I have a hard time anymore getting questions answered on the forums as well.

Anyway, for your question, yes 3 gallon containers would/should be fine. With that space though, i'd definitely get more watts if all possible. You would probably want to veg longer than average if you ask me. I would also use fabric or air pots as well, you will get a bigger plant in either of those two containers.

Personally in that space, with the light you have i'd run 12 plants in 3 gallon containers or 8 in 5 gallon. If you went with 12 i'd veg for at least 3 weeks to a month.

I personally run two 4x4 areas "tents" and use 1000 watts and it works out great! Definitely not over kill. With that area you have 1000 watts would be great and IMO 1200 to 1600 watts would be perfect.

As far as pot size to yield goes, indoor is much different than outdoor when it comes to container size and yield. Indoor is all about veg time, canopy coverage (you want the entire 6x6 area covered with foilage to maximize yield). You can train, using LST or maybe even ScroG (which personally I don't fool with) but it might be an option for you.

Whatever you do just make sure you fill that bitch in and maintain good temps and environmental control and practice good hygiene and cleanliness in your room, this will help you maximize your yield.

If my answer was not precise enough for your needs or comfort please let me know and i'll go into further detail.

I would add that the time of vegging is also dependent on his height restrictions and what strain he is growing, no?

If you were to grow say stretchy Sativas and have a very low ceiling, vegging them for 3 weeks might make you run into height issues.

I'm new and still need to get some experience under my belt so take anything I say with a grain of salt and rather listen to more experienced growers like MountainBudz.

But from what I understand, training/tying down plants in flower can (depending on strain) lead to quite a bit of stress and issues.

So imho just don't forget about height when you consider vegging for longer periods.

If you do indeed run Sativas or plan to do so, maybe flower some from rooted clone first and see if they stay within their height limitations from your ceiling or if you can indeed veg them a couple of weeks and still be fine.

Better than having 12 plants that all hit the roof and then you have to stress them by tying them down in mid flower.

thanks MB.. that is pretty much exactly the info I was looking for..appreciate that... I have the pots with holes and fabric that I just received.. plastic pots are 4 and 3 gallon and the fabric are all 3 gal..so I can try a few differet to see how it goes but that info is just what I wanted... had thought of more plants and I see guys with one plant taking up a good bit of room so I had digressed..will try to hand at fimming and lst...not sure if I can handle the scrog ..as far as 1000 watt I think they put off a good bit more heat and Im trying to stay away from that for now as my ventilation system is pretty low budget/tech..

I can pretty much assure you, you ain't gonna be growing a "one pounder", indoors or out, in a 10 gallon container...

actually it depends on how you feed ounces per gallon of soil is dependent on this.

amended soil bigger pots more soil, feed in water you can get away with smaller pots

I have gotten more than a pound from less than 5 gallons of soil and gotten many strains to the 3/4 mark in the same soil volume

all promix, various feeds

IMHE you get more flowers if you root bind your plants, but only if you feed them not the soil via exudates

One of the few things I dislike about LOS is I can't force flowers in small soil footprints

20 + oz in less than 5 gallons

this was fed earth juice so yeah it was organic

over 11 - shire (the hydroton was to keep the top soil layer from drying) pure blend and ionic iirc

FFA just about 3/4 of a pound forget what I fed it

Thanks Wierd...love those idea pics...atsa lotta weed for one spot/area without all the fancy stuff... is that just LST , one of few I am familiar with, then looks like the buds got so heavy didnt need the string anymore... whew...

Those are some impressive plants and yields there Weird.

But i'm having trouble understanding the point you are trying to get across as for what he needs to do to achieve those yields or results.

What are you trying to say? Could you go into a little deeper detail please? Thanks man.
