container size for 3-4 oz plants? (dry weight)

S

Speedcat

just wondering what container size you suggest for plants with a end weight of 3-4 oz of dry bud? now space and quantity go hand in hand so I dont want to be using bigger containers than the plants will use. Id like to get a idea from people out their who have grow 3-4 oz plants and what container size they used and if known, then how much root space was filled up in that size container( if you took the root ball out and checked).

Can't go wrong with 5 gal buckets, that seems to be a standard size for a good harvest. Another important thing is the right size light, you can't expect to be pulling that kind of weight if you're only using cfl's or low watage HID's like 150's. Of course it CAN be done but it takes a lot of practice and skill to get to that level, if this is your first time growing don't EXPECT to pull that kind of weight just set it as a goal and try to come as close as you can.

got a 1000 watt HPS with cooltube and a vortex inline fan 440cfm with 28" carbon scrubber attached and using a 118"x59"78" grow tent

what's your light source?

and how big is your growing area?

your going to need to veg for something like 60-80 days, and these are going to be BIG plants (6+ ft tall) so your going to need a light source that will penetrate down that far, or add supplemental lighting down low.

I'd go for as big a pot as you can, like maybe even using a big rubbermaid storage tub, as the root size and the plant size want to be the same, so if you try and do it in a 5 gal pot, once it gets rootbound it pretty much slows the growth to a crawl.

there was a thread in here where a guy grew ONE GIANT plant in a huge storage tub, and he yielded something like 640 grams off of just the one plant,.....I remember it was 180 days from seed to harvest though.

Lulz, you should get more than that with that light/tent.

But if you're trying to get 3-4 oz per plant, I'd also suggest 5 gallon buckets/grow bags. Put about 4 of them under that lamp and top and train away.

Personally? I'd go with 2 gallon grow bags and pack as many under the light as I could. Smaller yield per plant, but you'll get to harvest much faster with similar yield results.

your right and wrong. I would get more than three oz per plant but I would have to veg longer. So more plants, shorter veg means i am shooting for a ideal number per plant, more like 3oz. How big will a 3oz mainly all indica plant get, Give me a very generalized height and width guys...

i get about 1.5-2ozs a plant from a 5in netpot aeroponically grown. 12/12 from clone. soil and hydro is old news to me. i dont care what the strain is 12/12 2oz a plant with botanicares aerojet 8 tray. way to go imo. easy maintenance. initial investment is $1600/table... if you gave my plants a week or 2 grow they would get MASSIVE. i dont have the head room for that though considering the aerotable sits about 1-2ft off the ground. then im in a grow tent with only 7ft of head room... if your going soil. earthgrow boxes 2 plants perbox easy 3-4oz a plant. Hydro go with the ebbflow buckets you will get what your looking for from them aswell. but if you want to save about a week or 2 in the end then buy botanicares aerojet. you wont be dissapointed.

Lol this must be the joke thread , lol hahahaha weight depends on a lot more then a container size , I think you meant pot size a container usually comes with a lid to contain s*** but let me start off by saying you need a strain that can produce that much weight, then you need to know how to grow and by the way you approach help I can tell you don't know alot about it, then you need high tech gear like accurate pH and ppm ec meters, then you need controls to keep temps and humidity right(a/c,dehumidifier or humidifier) then you need good high end nutrients I would suggest something that proven like a top brand and you don't just buy the base nutes and a couple additives you buy everything that company makes plus maybe more, then here's the hardest part besides experience, you need to study, study, study!!! Keep on learning and improving never think your the best and can't get better (like one of my closes friends, lol) you can always learn something new and maybe it will help! Next is training, when I say training it consist of LST, HST, Topping, FIMing, Pinching, lollipopping, etc most strains won't pull close to 3-4 Oz. Of good nug the top might be prime but your bottom ain't if you ain't training!

20 liters equivalent to 5 gallon. Maybe go to 26l if you have that size. Main thing....good grow medium, good light.

Found when I grew Gorilla Bubble outside, I started with 5 gallon, then cut bottom out and added another 5 gallon below to finish. Glad I did.

If you've never grown 100 at a time, you may want to try 20 and see how plants respond to your conditions. Would hate to see 100 fail.

And good luck with growing them!

I'm going to be using coco and 20 percent perlite. 26l isn't that a bit too big for min 4 oz a plant I'm going to be using 600w hps lights and plenty of them and will be using canna nutes and be hand feeding

Two gallon pots, 4 to 5 colas 6 inch apart, 2week veg with a little lst in soiless

Sog/scrog style. Strain depending 1 gallon =1 oz on average. 1/4 to 1/2 oz per 6x6 inch space so you would need roughly 3sq to 4sq ft per plant in 3 to 4 gallon potter's.one week of veg per gallon so 3 to 4 week veg. Vary strian/skill dependent .i would go two gallon potter's if it were me.

Two gallon 2week veg

3 to 4 gallon 3 to 4 week veg

For my two gallon 5 cola plants i put clones in 4inch square potters till they reach about the 5th to 6th node (about 5 to 7 days in square pots) . then i top the plant (s) to start branching and transplant into 2 gallon paint buckets from wallyworld after 2 days i trim all but top 4 or 5 branches off and over the next week of growth i train each and every branch by hand once a day to be the same hight (for a even canopy) . soon as i get all 4 to 5 branches even and thoughs branches have atleast 1 true leaf (5 to 7 fingers) (takes about 5 to 7 days). I throw in too flowering.

For biger plants process is the same except i pinch tops of all 4 to 5 branches to turn it into 2 shoots effectivly makeing 8 to 10 tops insteed of 4 to 5 . this takes an extra week though .

Now you should understand why any more then 3 weeks of veg is pointless in a fast turn around system/setup.

Also part of the 2 to 3 week veg recommendation is the fact that it gives a perfect amount of time for next round of clones to be taken/selected/trained in time to be ready for your flower room . you will have to play with your setup and get it dialed to know how long to veg . i would not choose a veg time for yieled i would choose your veg time off how long it takes you to get a clone ready for veg (hint). its like a fine tuned maching .

Hope that helps .

Gallon per oz of soil is common so 3 gallon 3 oz on average 5 gallon 5 oz etc

of course veg time is a huge factor
