Container size and root development

hey guys.
I see alot of people starting their beans and clones off in small party type cups and was wondering what the general idea was behind this.I've been growing for about 15 years indoors and out(outdoors for the last 5)and have always tried to start off in at least 4" pots or bigger to allow the roots good development and to help avoid the plant form excessive vertical growth(indoors).Have i been wrong all this time, does allowing the seedling/clone to develop a root ball in the smaller container help latter on?
Would like to hear some opinions on the subject.Cheers :joint:

Nope, comes down to preference and the norm is with clones that you have many, and many don't want that many pots when they can just use some dixie cups. But that's just my opinion on the subject.

suppose i need like 500 cuts..you all gonne put them in 3 or 5 gallon tubs??
small pots just saves room and time....:2cents:
also.... most people have a small cab as a veg area...also a reason to keep'm small

my friend says he uses the small cups because he's lazy and hates washing and sterilizing the small plastic containers... so the cups can be thrown away easily

Laziness is a poor excuse, but a common one lol ... U dnt need a big pot/cup for roots to develop ... A party cup is heaps of room for seeds/clones to develop a good root system, then when u pot up the plants hav a good root ball to fill the larger pot from the centre outward, rather than growing roots to the side of the pot, then down and leaving bare soil, with few roots in the middle of the pot.

Also smaller pots save space ... however they dry out quicker so if u go away for days at a time, bigger is better, coz it wont dry out so fast (as im sure u no with 15 years under ur belt! haha)

My 2 cents. Cheers.

Absolutely!!! ... Thats why its so addictive!!! haha, there's always something new to try, a new strain to grow, a new way to grow it, a new medium or product to grow it with, successes, failures, best evers, worst evers ... It keeps me entertained, off the street, and out of trouble! --- Hmmm why is it illegal again? lol
