Started up a small grow. First one in a few years. A new Mars Hydro FC 4000-EVOv in my 2×4 veg tent and a 1k hps in a 4×4 tent.
Dusted off the ez cloner and away we go I guess haha

Popped some seeds - all Nspecta's gear
Chem 91 s1 (x2)
Chem D s1 (×1)
Chem 91 × Chem D (×1)
UK Cheese × Chem 91 (×1)
Chem D × UK Cheese (×1)
Bubba kush S1 (×1)

Got few moms sent in
GG#4
Reeses
Tropicana Cherry
Garlicane
GMO (doubts on authenticity already though)
More on the way...
I always have to many moms loool

All cuts were from flowering plants. And they rooted OK but the reeses never looked happy even once yet. Garlicane was iffy for awhile too. They are all almost back into veg fully.
At any rate, we shall see what's what soon enough.

Anyone who knows me knows this won't just be a grow thread. It will be a snapshot of my life as the days go by. I'll share my other hobbies and my life as it happens as well. Now I'm probably gonna be a little dusty at first so please bear with me. Truth is, I've never really been the best grower anyways haha. But I do have fun, and I try to retain more than I forget.

Anyway. It's great to be back growing. Even better to be among friends here at ICMag. I hope you enjoy the show !!!

Appreciate you guys stopping by the thread ❤️ I really do !

Picked up my filter at the hydro shop yesterday. And today i collected a bunch of bamboo for making biochar.

After the biochar was cooled I smashed it up pretty good and to inoculate I added approximately the same volume mushroom compost and VERY well composted cow manure. A bunch of handfuls of oats, powdered oyster shells, and earthworm castings (about 10 each) and some unsulfered blackstrap molasses
This will sit 2-3 weeks till I add it to my mix

I've long since given up on measurements haha. But can write down approximately for anyone interested. I can also walk folks through the biochar process.

Thanks for showing up so early in the grow friends. Yall make this old man happy to be sharing 👋🙏❤️

Up potted a few today
Figure my mother's will be ready for haircuts by next weekend !
Reeses has decided to live for me 🥰 I seen a bit of root poking out the bottom of her pot.

Searching for a nice sour, I've asked a few folks. Hopefully i get some good news lol. I wanna run the notso and see what's up. My beloved pre-98 is also coming back home.

And even though I'm running seeds of them, and will continue to do so, the Skva and D will come back home again.

Also. I spotted a male in someone's grow I couldn't stop thinking about. So I reached out and asked. Looks like I might make some seeds myself soonish.

Put a few different kind of seeds in dirt today as well. If they pop you'll see em in the background 😉🤓

That's a 30 gallon new oak barrel with #3 char of my own corn liquor I put up in Aug of '23. My first taste will be next August !

Good things take time !

Star I hit play and got real mellow at the same time
Try this one on for size ….

Exactly what I needed for that hour !
Thank you ❤️

My thermostat (wife) told me it was to cold in the house. Fired up the coal stove. NOTHING heats like anthracite !
I like to keep the house at 69f all winter for no reason other than its less than 70 and I'm a dirty old man 😉

Good evening friends

Today when I got home I dug my hand down into the biochar compost mix and gave the handfull a big sniff. I barely detected the scent of char. This is good !
After the sniffing was done I added
5 cups blood meal
5 cups kelp meal
1 cup rock phosphate
9 cups bone meal
9 cups dolomite lime
Roughly 3 table spoons Epsom salt
And a 5 gallon bucket of perlite

Mixed it all up really well and then brought it into the garage so the curious raccoons around here don't dig into it and toss it all over the place getting after that blood and bone.
This is also an issue if this mix is used outdoors to soon. It needs to sit 2 weeks till it all melds together. The addition of the biochar speeds this process up by about a week actually. Another great benefit !

Now it looks like a black soil that you would buy in a store except it is much much better than that ❤️

The next step will be to mix this into a 3.8cf bail of peat. Always keep it moist ! It must never dry out as this mix is alive and can die !

Fox farm ocean forest ? What's that ?
Overpriced sawdust is what it is. Do I still buy it and use it occasionally, yes I do 😁

Occasionally we get bougie around here and eat some shrimps, or crab legs, and even more rare lobstah tails !

I always collect the shells for 1 of two things. I either make my favorite soup which is lobstah/seafood bisque. Or my plants get lucky and I make a seafood meal to feed to them.

Today I am making the crustacean meal.
This is high in Phosphorus, calcium, and Magnesium. Rich in Chitin ! And easy to make at home. I boil the shells for 30 minutes stirring occasionally to remove any seasonings/meat/sauces.
Then I rinse them off very well. And I bake them at 250f for about 3hrs or until they are pale.
They break up very easily at this point. I put them in a coffee grinder and grind to a powder. Then I add it to my mix. No measurements because this is a slow release and will not burn.
And the my mix all get recycled back through the compost so anything not used by the plants the first time around will get eaten by bacteria and be available next time It makes it into the pots.

I toss a few a handfulls into my worm bins as well

Oh, the hot water from the boiling I put on my dogs food and let it soften and cool. They absolutely love it !

Next round started. Fresh made biochar, worm castings, composed cow manure, mushroom compost, rock phosphate, oats, honey, crab/shrimp/lobstah meal, bit of Epsom for conductivity...

Spotted PM on the gg4 😢 tossed her in the woods. I'll treat the cuts I already took and flower them out. Both rooms get a fresh coat of kills. I'll also treat all vegging plants that were in the vicinity. I'm not overly worried at this point.

A kind soul has already reached out to replace her with a clean cut. Humbled and thankful yet again at the love this community has always shared with me and ❤️

Honored to have ya along for the ride my friend. I just been sitting here in limbo, but I know it won't be long 🫡

These 4 seed babies are the first plants to go Into the soil mix I made earlier.

Today is a mental health day for Bear. I just freshened my breath, gonna set the phone down and go deep into the woods. No working or peopling. Just the trees and the animals
