Compost Tea?

Hi friends. I was wondering if i could get a basic compost tea mix recipe? Like what amendments should i get to take home and brew myself. Ill be watering once weekly with it in the outdoor garden. In previous years we just went to a shop and they had pre mixed bulk 15 pound dry bags of compost amendments where we just brewed at the house. Or does anyone know of a place in Nor Cal where they sell bulk dry compost tea ready to take home and brew yourself? We used Boogie Brew in the past and did ok with it but the stuff is pricey. Thanks

Check out microbeman's microbeorganics.com. He has a basic recipe and a lot of great info. The basic idea is water, good compost, a tiny bit of molasses, and good aeration for a day or two. You can add small amounts of fish hydrolysate and a kelp meal if you're feelin frisky.

I was going to brew some but my soil is made out of compost so I feel like it would be silly to add all the microbes that are already in there. As long as I water enough.

Thanks Planting. I too guess have some kind of compost to my soil? I added some mango mulch on top of my soil. I thought molasses was used in the end as a sweetener? Thats when i always used it the last few weeks into flower. Humboldt Honey is what I've used in the past

The pre mixed dry compost tea i use to get was a 15 lb bag. Id just add 1 cup to 5 gallons of H20 and brew for 18-24 hours. The bag didn't even have the ingredients of what it was, amendments

The Organic Soil section has tea recipes also.
Many different ways to make it, many different ideas what works and what doesn't.
Shouldn't be too hard to find a recipe, or invent your own.

I get good resuts as follows:

6 gal bucket
5 gal water
2 cups ewc
5 Tbsp molasses

brew 24 hours

Simple :)

It may be semantics but I'd tend to call that a vermi tea. I have no doubts about it's effectiveness. I believe AACT containing either thermal or static compost as opposed to worm castings would have a greater variety of organisms

My recommendation is check out "compost extract" or "Liquid biological amendment". There's a few really good farmers and biologists that I respect that are not into it. There's a lot that are into it and successful. Easy and more or less foolproof. Good luck

Leadsled started the thread in organic soil. Microbeman presented some good science that appeared to debunk a few techniques regarding fungus in the thread. It's a good read.

I think technique and compost quality are more important than recipe.

I probably went too far with this since it's a topic for Organic soil. Best of luck!

There ya go. I don't think you went too far, I'm sure you are right. :)
