Completely new person to vacation in Denver

First the (small) back story. i am a middle-aged male who has never really done anything with his life. While I have been a supporter of the legalization of MJ in Ohio (not counting the recent, incredibly bad, constitutional amendment they tried to pass) I have never used myself.

As part of my "broadening horizons" self-improvement kick I decided to fly somewhere (as I have never flown before either). So for someone planning a weekend vacation in Denver I would like some advice. I considered taking the Greyhound or Amtrak as they are also on my lists of "things to try" but the thought of 30 hours by bus or more by train rather put me off. I'll save those for my trip to Niagara Falls and Disneyworld!

First, any advice on what a absolutely clueless beginner should do? Take one of the cannabis tours I see advertised? Any recommendations? Any known to be particularly friendly to the clueless (as I would hate to slow down or bother the more experienced people's tours)?

Second, any recommendations on a not-overly-expensive place to lay my head for two/three nights in or around Denver? While I see "420 friendly" hotels being advertised their going rate certainly seems to be more upscale than what I would hope to spend. Not that i have much recent experience their either as I have stayed in a motel for all of one night in the last 20 years.

Thanks for any advice you care to give.

Amtrack was kick ass last time I used it about 8 years ago. Lots of leg room, even in the coach seats. They have a glassed viewing car, dining car, bar & even showers. It's probably the most comfortable form of travel, imo.

To the uninitiated cannabis experimenter, I would suggest starting off light. Get yourself a cheap glass bowl & a gram each of a few varities that sound appealing to you.
There is no public consumption allowed in CO so you'll need a smoking friendly room or you might have to meet some people to smoke with or use one of the various dab lounges (if they still exist by the time you arrive). I prefer driving into the mountains & going for a walk or hike in solitude or w a friend(s) that also partake.

I cannot make recos as to where to make purchases as I'm nowhere near the metro areas.

have fun, go to nederland and boulder. Ned is where the best weed in CO is grown, known fact for 40yrs in CO.
Boulder on 4/20 would be your best bet for hooking up on Fine Ganj...

stay out of denver, not a good place to visit. gangland- 5 Points, heads shot for $2.00 just for being out on the streets in the DAY!

You, being a n00b tourist you are ripe for picking. Denver sucks, I lived in CO for over 25yrs

Go to Nederland Ward Boulder Have fun in the mountains where the Nugs grow fine.
Boulder has many good nug shops, 100x better than Denver

If you hit up Nededland, go to the Yellow Canary...damn if you had your 50 post I'd be able to pm you and tell you my name for a recomendation. My friends would hook you up and show you the ropes.

In Ned go to Back Country Pizza and chill for a few puffs, all the best local growers hang there showing off Tues nights was the time 3yrs ago..sports night is a great night to chill and get down with the Funk!

Interesting advice

Interesting advice

Thanks for the "food for thought". I never considered just how . . . unruly . . . Denver could possibly be. I know I certainly stay out of most larger cities such as Cincinnati, Columbus, etc. I will reconsider which city to spend the majority of my time in. Although I still want to hit the Denver Science museum while I am near! Unfortunately this will have to be a "weekend dash", so not much sightseeing will happen.
