Complacency

Growing cannabis seems so harmless at times that the actual consequences of being found out are forgotten.

This type of complacency is hard to not fall into.

The type of efforts needed to continually keep all related things hidden and out of sight seems OCD and paranoid. The consequences of being found out are truly deserving of OCD and paranoid behavior.

For those of you in medical states, its probably not as big a deal.

One little slip could bring the whole house of cards down. I've seen it more times than I can count and it is heartbreaking seeing how detrimental growing a plant can be.

Anybody have any close calls or previous busts related to being complacent, I'd love to hear them in hopes I or anyone else reading this won't do the same.

I had a slip up once, that didn't end up too bad.

I left one of my spare bedroom doors open, which had and aero cloner out in the open. My gf shows up and I act like I'm going to my bedroom, but she sees me close that door. Next, 20 questions, and it wasn't going well, I couldn't answer most of her questions truthfully and she went in there and saw them.

She said she doesn't care that I grow and still seems fine with it. She doesn't smoke, but she ate some mushrooms with me that we grew once and liked it.

So it ended up ok, but that's one too many people that I would rather not know about it.

So many ppl. are growing now and the fact that most don,t know the cosequences of getting busted leads me to believe that a lot of these growers don,t tinik they will ever get caught...I,ve been at this game for 40 yrs on and off and I did get caught and went aways for a few yrs...but I was always prepared...so it didn,t hurt too much. You have to keep those closest to you safe and you have to take your lumps....when and if you get busted...Just make sure you can do the time if necessary...In the end it is a slippery slope and it only take one bad move to do you a bunch of BS.....
Take extra precautions and make a conscience decision that you have to do what you have to do when the shit hits the fan...
good thoughts Sam..take care

Getting busted = lost herb/strains/$/identity and some time served for me. I had dampened my intake and exhaust during violent winds, humidity rose and when I vented a neighbour saw 'a big cloud of steam', fire dept then a green team visit. There are days when I wish I had just bought a dehumidifier.

Man, I always keep my mouth shut, although its pretty hard when someone is talking about growing or anything weed related and gives out wrong info. Thats when you gotta bite your tongue and remind yourself that your advice will not do you any good.
I think it is a part of human nature to relax and let your guard down after you've been in a place doing stuff for some time and feel familiar and comfortable with it. Remember "Loose lips sink ships"

got in arguement with the old lady and cops showed up. not good but they never found the grow even tho they were right next to it. luckilly i was apprehended outside so there was no cause for searching the house. i am medicinal but you know LOL. keep the old lady stoned and take valium when she is extra bitchy. they did take some weapons no guns and didnt find my brass knuckles. other than that i am ok

Great thread. It never hurts to review your security measures. One slip and it's a slippery slope. I had one close call back in the 80's. I was doing a outdoor run, in what I thought was a fairly remote area. 3/4's of the way through my grow, a contractor bought up a bunch of land and started developing it. I lost a few plants, probably to a construction worker that toked, but that was it. When I pulled them at 8 weeks, instead of the 10 weeks I was shooting for, they had cut a road only 75 feet from my grow area. The next year, there was a house sitting, right where I used to grow. My mistake was not paying attention to the small " Land for Sale " sign, at the begining of the dirt road. Looking back, I should have phoned the Real Estate Co. and asked, what land, where and how much per acre ? Live and Learn.

I think it's always best to start doing some research on others who got busted in your state and following them through the system and finding out why they got busted, how much time they did if any, probation, what they ended up getting convicted of. Each state is different and even each county can be different too when it comes to getting busted and going to court.
