Hello all,
Well, I am now down to 3 Nirvana Afghani and 3 totally unknown (don't recall) bagseed.
Interesting, I have had the bagseed for a couple of years and the NA about 8 months. They have been soaking in water for about 7 hours and all three of the bagseed have sunk and are showing signs of cracking.
The NA are sunk but yet have to crack.
The reason for the long oratory is that I have in the past 12 days killed 13 seedlings-none lasting longer then two days.
The first six I thought I fried due to being to close to the 144 watts of clf's.
The temp was 75*F in the cab but the only circulation was the ventilation system of the cab-no interior fan blowing. This because the cabinet is in an outbuilding (shed) and is not heated.
So, I thought, better use the fan next time and I proceeded to germ the next seven beans.
After two days, I planted them in the soil which is a mix of Kellogg's Patio Plus and perlite with a pinch of D.lime. Same as before.
The next day, I had sprouts-24hours latter there where signs of distress in all of them-they are burning. Temps are 72*F with the fan gently blowing across the tops of the cups.
I kept the soil slightly moist-not too much water.
So, as I am counting my last beans I am wondering wtf am I doing wrong-then it hits me-the soil is too hot-composted chicken/bat/worm shit.
So, I mixed up another batch tonight in preperation for the new seedlings only this time I used the following mix.
1 part Kelloggs patio plus
1/2 part washed mortar sand
1 part perlite
3 parts sphagnum(sp) peat
a pinich of D.lime.
I think this should cool down the soil some.
