so far so good, i'm lovin the lvbk and buddahs sis x el jefe, only in veg...
also tho.
that batch of plants from seed... are all veggin under a special new phillips 315w Agro Ceramic Metal Halide bulb running on ballast from boulder lamp
so, they are especiallyhappy, large leaves, fat fat stems and dense nodes.... gotta get clones off all those ladies and flower them under the new CMH and see what it's capable of.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where the best place is to get clones for rec use? Looking for wide variety and bug free...

I've not seen any rec spots selling plants, that's just my limited experience in rec shops.
seriously; (I kinda hate to say it), but for rec plants.... craigslist

The Green Solution on I-70 will sell you 6 plants for Recreational use.

It was just confirmed by someone that went there this week.

The strain selection is about what you would expect form a dispensary though.

I would craigslist it myself. :)

a friend Talked to the guy who is selling those 315w he said u use less nutrients bc of the spectrum is so wide. buddy of mine has two of them in a dual raptor in flower. seeing some ok results.
a large grow in boulder is using over a 50 of them in their veg area and seeing very good results just as a veg light.

I am guessing these are the same 315w CMH that the guy says will perform as well or better than a 1000w hps?

I find it more than hard to believe.

I honestly don't know why anyone is spending time developing indoor lighting when long term everything will be greenhouse.

Seems to me they are starting something towards the end of a era. Not the beginning.

We all know that LED's will take over for any supplemental lighting growers will need in the future. Get the penetration down(Not that kind:)), and it is a done deal.

Sometimes the wheel doesn't need to be reinvented.

in this case tho, i think it DOES need to be reinvented.
I've been praying for an indoor lighting game changer that isn't cost prohibitive... and so far I'm really digging the 315w cmh and YES i'd say it's comparable in power to a 1kw/6oow, however has a slightly smaller footprint than a 1kw simply because the bulb is smaller.
but as far as power use goes.... it's kickass... makes essentially NO heat (hand 2 inches from the bulb not uncomfortable, but i still keep plants 20 - 10 inches from bulb.

alot of LED's are like $700+ (sometimes nearly 2x that much) to cover a 4x4 square foot area... the phillips cmh can easily do 3x3 or 4x3 foot square for under 500$ each....

just saying, im digging them and if i COULD (afford it), i probably WOULD replace hps in veg and t5s also in veg as well (and eventually, hopefully in flowering also) in favor of the philips agro 315w lites. granted i've only vegged under them thus far, but the plants from seed that have been under the cmh their entire lives are some of the most healthy looking plants I've ever grown from seed, and they are just in promix hp being fed GH base nutes, nothing different about them aside from the light i'm using.

I know I liked using a Ceramic Metal Halide back when I had my 400 watt ballast. It was nice using it for veg and the beginning of flower. It ran cooler than the 400 HPS as well. I haven't heard about this 315 though.

I'm extremely fortunate to be connected with several respected breeders in the area- and more beyond- such that I need never worry about where to get good genetics. They come to me! Developing such a network of your own will yield the greatest rewards.

Gotta give a little to get a little, it can be tough breaking in.

I hear you on the need for better spectrum and I've been investigating specific UVB spectrum lighting for use as a supplement. Research I've read shows this is the UV wavelength in nature that the plants respond to best. I'm having trouble locating a strong enough source for UVB, CFL really doesn't cut it. This way one could get the best of both HPS power and specific trichome exciting UVB.

Thoughts?

tystick,
check out the ceramic metal halide thread, it's a sticky in the lighting section i believe. the member "Rives" is the resident authority on CMH over there as far as i can tell
