Coldest Indoor Temp

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering what your opinions are regarding colder than normal temps for an indoor grow in soil. What do you think is the coldest temperature that you can get away with and are there any advantages or disadvantages to having a colder than normal grow room. I am talking about a range from 50F at the coldest to just under 70F at the hottest. Any opinions would be appreciated.

i think colder temps like that will really stunt growth.
i have yellowing problems when the temps drop below 65 deg..

Thanks suiteflyer.....I guess we shall see. It has been very cold where I live and the temps in the cab have yet to hit 70. Surprisingly, the plants have been growing at a normal pace. Most of them are starting on their 3rd node a little over a week since they broke through the ground.

Totally....I'm sure it will warm up soon. I guess if they start turning to crap I'll have to get a space heater or heating pad in there.

I'm hoping that the colder temps will help me get a couple good females. I've had bad luck with these seeds so far.....all males

FYI they are Nirvana's Bubblicious and Blue Mystic

And look at the plus side. Maybe your plants will start showing some "colors" towards the end of flowering.

During flower colder temperatures induce heavier resin production and a greater plethera of colors to a certain point. If you reach the lower 50's and upper 40's then growth can and usually does greatly slow down. I keep my lights off temps. at about 65 and they resin up pretty quick. Lights on is between 74-78 depending if my secondary lights are running. Hope that helps

So it sounds like if my temps don't drop below 50 I should be okay. Does anyone have any experience with colder temps producing more females. My plants are at the three bladed stage now. I have read that this is the time that sex is determined.

Guess you gonna have to just cross your fingers and hope for the best. Personally I wouldn't advise taking it below 60 but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do, and I don't usually go by how many bladed leaves there are as to when sex is determined(although it tends to be around the 4th or 5th node), I just start looking around the 4th or 5th week of veg but with your temperatures who knows when sex will start to show. Yeah, I guess we'll see what happens. I plan on switching to 12/12 in about a week since I have a limited time frame to complete this grow. Hopefully things will warm up a bit. I gotta say, at least it's better than trying to fight the heat.

Well because of poor breakers Ive had crops fall below 50, the buds are constricted from developing into lush buds. They still produce butnot anywere near what they would in proper temp rages...

i definately hate to see any more then 10 degress of temp change between lights on and lights off, also anything under 50 is damn scurry.

Just dont keep your temps that cold for long periods of time if it is around 50-60 during the night hours you should be fine, and around 70 during the day. It also depends on what strain you are growing some strains can go through hell and still be as strong as ever while others will die just by making a few little mistakes.

Here's an idea if you are really worried about cold get a space heater put it a good 6-10 feet away from your plant, and turn it on medium and put an oscilating fan in front of the space heater about 2 feet.

here's another idea if your growing in soil you could put them on heat pads that will at least keep the roots warm

Thanks everyone for all the comments.

I was able to tweek a couple things in my grow space and the weather warmed up slightly. Yesterday my temps were about 70 under the lights and 55 in the dark. The snow is flying today, but it's supposed to warm up again in a couple days. I'm sure things will be slightly colder in the garden until then. The Bubblicious plants don't seem to mind the cold, although I seem to have one runt. Other than that they are growing like champs. I also have some Blue Mystic going. They are not growing as fast, but still look good. Perhaps Bubblicious is a little more cold resistant.

Ultimately I will hook the grow room up to the heating and AC of the rest of the house. I haven't been here long and I'm still working things out. Anyway, thanks again for all the input.
