Cold Weather Solution!

So you want to grow but it is too cold and heats pose fire hazards and cost alot of money. Attic is the only safe spot and its damn cold up there.

What if you had two boxes (more of a micro grow). Use PVC and take the exhaust of box A and run it to the bottom of box B and From Top of B to bottom of A. Kind of like a X looking thing. A fan in each box will blow the warm air into the bottom of the other box. Set one from 6am-6pm and the other 6pm-6am. They heat each other. Just paint the pvc black and use some elbows to stop light from transferring between boxes.

This is only CFL but should still work. Any input or answers?

hmm, i haven't run into this situation personally, but i would think your best bet would be a decent sized grow room, with ventilation connected to a thermostat. Instead of running vents 24/7 they just kick on when it gets over say 78, and turn off when the room is down to 70 so it can climb back up again.

This will make defeating smell issues a more dificult problem though, as you wont have continuous negative pressure.

The boxes cant simply be "X" together, as you would have no fresh air, which kinda defeats the purpose.

i do the same thing mate , run one room into the other all the other back ! 6-6, 6-6
instead of wasting electric on heating i just add extra light where needed . it gets very cold here , minus 20 at times and after the disaster i had the first year here trying to combat the cold , this cross over system is by far the best and easiest

I suggest you also read, and try and understand where you are posting. You didn't post in the micro-growing area, you posted in grow room designs and equipment. The word room is rather generic, most basically refering to an area which is enclosed from the outside. A light bulb is a heater, i didn't mention anything beyond that. You say kinda like an X, but your description of how to intake and exhaust will work (Exhaust A->Intake B->Exhaust B->Intake A) is exactly like an X, and i will say again if you run it exactly like you described without fresh air there will be issues.

High School . . . . Are you from the midwest where its common to not graduate? Where i'm from its not an option to drop out of high school.

As to money, you can be as cheap as you want. But i personaly keep in mind that a small harvest(from an HID at least, half a lb) would have cost me over $2000 over a few months if i had bought ounces instead.

insulting people on a forum is definitely going to make people NOT want to respond and help you out.

and how are heaters dangerous? get a oil filled heater and you will be completely safe. Also, adding a heater won't make it THAT much more expensive.

You are using CFLs, they put out practically no heat, compared to a HPS that is.

If you are making these two boxes sealed, adding a heater is going to be like adding a computer to your electric bill (if that much)


really, the fact that you are using CFL's means that a heater may be your only option, i just dont see CFLs being able to warm up the boxes enough.

i was using 2 x 600 in each room and venting each through the other room to try and keep temps as constant as i could , i did use extra fans and ducting . but i had all the kit laying around anyway.
the way i see it for a bit of extra hassel i can have 2 grows for the same electric as one , just by using the lights for heat instead of a oil filled radiator .
this growing in sub zero temps is a pain in the arse when doing small grows , any sort of extraction and it kills your temps , the only way i can see it working for me is if i completely seal my room , which is something i am working on right now .
