Thanks, WG. I forgot to mention the time.

Not only very funny, but many important points were touched on. Kind of sad that a comedy news show is more informative than the actual news.

Some points covered in the segment:

  • The latest Pew poll that shows a majority of Americans favor legalization.

  • 18 States now have mmj.

  • The graph that shows steady addiction rates in spite of exponential growth in drug war spending (looks like a mountain with a stream running out).

  • Rand Paul's recent statement on legalization.

  • A great interview with Nick Gillespie, Reason.com editor-in-chief.

  • Private prisons' dependence on prohibition.

No probs Tony....team efforts are the best!

One of the scariest things of our modern society is the growth of the prison industrial complex, culminating in the privatization of prisons as you mentioned.

I read an article about 10 years ago or so that said if the current trend continues of incarcerating folks on the ridiculous drug laws, and the need to continuously build more and more prisons in rural communities to house those people convicted, that by the year 2035 or so half of the US adult population will either be incarcerated in prison or be employed by a prison. That is truly fucked up. It will be that much harder to stop this insanity when the entire town's employment is based on the prison's existence.

"If those kids wanted to go around to break laws to should have gone into banking", Colbert is just great, haha.
