Cmh footprint

Hi I'm looking to switch my lighting from 400 watt hps and mh to lec 315. I've read that the cmh have many benefits such as improved spectrum and less heat. I will be growing in a new 3x6+ size tent. I am wondering if one vertical lec 315 will sufficiently cover a 3x3 area during flower. Also I have read some good reviews about the sun system lec and the Phillips bulbs but have not seen any reviews on a eye hortilux 315 cmh. Can anyone provide some more information?

Yes sc1,that's the size space they are recommended for.Stick with the Phillip's bulbs as have higher output than the rest. You should see a marked improvement in quality over a 400 hps.

Sorry I've been away from my device. Sounds good. I will try lec then. And everyone says Phillips. I'm sort of a fan of hortilux, but maybe I will try one Phillips and one hortilux.

When searching for a grow tent, I found a specialized 3x6 that was designed for cmh lighting. I bought the tent because it was well made, but after reading about cmh I was impressed.

I think two of those 315 spaced out in a 3x6 is a great idea!
I was running cmh for a while and was looking for that dimension of tent, that did not exist until later.
Actually I believe the footprint of a 315 is slightly larger than 3x3, but that's just from my observations.
If you have the coin, getting the GreenBeams reflectors may give you a slight advantage over the sunsystems.
You will kill it with 2 315's appropriately spaced out, in that size tent. If you can hang the lamps high, possibly putting trellis on the walls and take advantage of a vertical and horizontal grow style.
I've got pics in some of my albums.

Footprint variws by hood design. Smaller hood, more focused footprint, bigger hoos spreads light out more.

I run 4x 315 in big kahuna hoods in a 8x13 room that's offset 2.5' from center.

i run '2' 315's in a 4x3.5' tent- imo, its a bit lite on light (play on words) - i bought '2' ...cheap.. led's off from amazon- each is '300'w, really about 160per unit- will hang em on the sides - last grow i tried a 8bulb 4ft fluor in the tent - within an hour i was at 100F... so i
$hit-canned that idea..

i toooo am using phillips 3100 bulbs- i also tried the bulbs that came with the package...hydro crunch.. and by 'eye' didn't see much diff...

So if this thread is still going one question. What is the tallest plant you would ever flower under one of these lights? Like the maximum height. I understand the footprint, but is light penetration so important?

I get more yield using a sog/net style. I've done the staked plant route with 600hps then 315cmh. If you want the most, use a net. If you want depth, stitch with 600/1000hps.

Not 100% sure.

I've went from 1x 600 to 3x 600 to 4x 315. My 4x315 nets me the same yield as my 3x 600 runs. Same room, same strains, same co2, ect.

There are a lot of variables that come I to play.

I've got my eye on a 6x6 +. Which would give me space for a 1000 or 3x3's. But I think that 2 or 3 of the cmh will beat the 1000. Or maybe even 1- 630

Personally I would run 2x315 setups vs 1x630. You get to put the hoods where you want for better light spread. Mine I run air cooled in big kahuna hoods and keep it 2' from the canopy.

Make sure you buy the correct t9 or t12 style bulbs for your needs. T9 should ONLY (for safety reasons) be ran in sealed or air cooled goods. T12 can be ran in open/vert/any way too like.
