Ceramic Metal Halide bulbs are much more compact than a normal metal halide bulb, and are used for growing coral. I have used them for growing coral for years, and a couple years ago I used just one for a 3'x3' fish tank base, and KAPOW! Amazing results, so now I am going to use 2 in a tent in my closet! I built it, so flowers will RAIN!!!!!

Might want to change the title to actual say compact in it as CMH usually stands for "ceramic metal halide"

That is really cool though, never seen anyone grow with those I don't think. How many watts?

Thanks for the heads up wegobigupnorth! Each bulb is 150 watts and they are powered by 250 watt pulse start ballasts. If you want to see what just 1 can do without nutrients, check out my Under the Reef Grow Start. I sold that one for $2500 rather than finishing it (not including the fish tank of course)! Pics will be coming soon of it fully assembled... Once my tent I ordered online gets here (Jeopardy Music).

Have recently switched from ~100w CFL's to 70w Osram HCI 930WDL. It is just amazing! The plant bursted into grow! The only drawback is the heat that the lamp is radiating, but it's less comparing to a 70w HPS, and the plant likes CMH better. Now the setup is consuming 30% less energy, and the plant is growing much, much better. Very happy with the conversion, it's worth the investment.

The plant is now to 3 segments, roots are going off, and temps and ph consistent. The plants are definitely responding faster than with PLLs I have used before. Only me and Father Time now.

One thing I noticed in other CMH grows was that the spectrum produced more leaf matter than other HID bulbs. That kind of turned me of from going this direction. but i speant a lot of time looking at them and almost pulled the trigger because there are a lot of benefits for micro grows. Maybe adding some more warm spectrum lightning would alleviate some of the excess leaf matter. Just sharing my observations. Good luck!!

I don't have any problems with lead matter on this grow. Maybe the spectrum I am using is different than other people's Micro Grows. I obviously flipped the lights too early, but she is looking and smelling sexier than any other Northern Lights I've ever seen, and still some time left in the flower time! I am excited!

Any updates ?

Whats the Kelvin of those CMH ? Do you have enough red to get good yields ?

Looks Awesome, love these micro cmh grows!

My neighbor just threw out a coral light. It had three of the 150w ballasts, and four two-lamp F39T5HO ballasts. I ordered two medium base CMH bulbs for them Now I'm in the process of designing a vertical coliseum cab for them. I can't wait to see what these can do.

My last round under 70w cmh was a little under an oz, hoping to double it this time round with some CFL's to fill out the side lighting and having a healthier plant to begin with. Looking forward to trying 150w too.
