Cloudy res after 3 days!!

Hey everyone!! Maybe someone can help me out here. I was getting alil bored waiting on my girls to finish up and had 30gdp clones on my hands so I thought Id throw alil 4x4 ebb flow up in a extra room I had. I was following Dongle69's 6k with coco and thought, hey, ive got a few bags of coco, might as well!!

So I throw all 30 up in the tray, got a 40gal res and threw a eco396gph pump in for circulation.

I was just using Maxibloom at 7grams/gallon. Half strength at first. Had to add phdown to bring it to 5.4-5.8.

3 days later, smelly, cloudy ass nutes!!! Thought maybe it was the phdown as I use the same water from the same spout to fill my Waterfarms and they look fabulous. So dumped it and cleaned with H202, top feed all the plants by hand to flush any "ass" out.

Filled with 7grams/gallon at about 1.8ec. No need for phdown this time. Things looked fantastic for the first 2 days. Lush growth. Thought it must have been the phdown.

Then day 3. Smelly ass water....

So I dump, clean, flush, add Cutting Edges line that was so nicely sent to me as samples and decide to add some air into the res. This should solve it. I thought maybe the pump wasn't moving enough water around. I take the air pump I was using to run all my waterfarms with. Thing pumps out a grip of air. Ran 4 stones off it and suctioned them to the bottom. Stuff was for surely moving in there!!

Then day 3 again This time I get bubbly, smelly ass water that was a pain in the ... to get clean.

By the way, no light leaks in the res, did have a few lil ones at first but fixed it for surely.

This time, after cleaning everything with 10%bleach and rinsing very well. I fill with Maxibloom, because it is pretty clear to start with and easy to tell when it starts getting cloudy, and add 12ml per 2.5gallons of Dutchmaster's Zone. I figure this would fix it for sure....

Day 3 today. Water looked great the last 2 days. Plants didnt really like the zone I think but are picking back up so no biggie. But my freaking res is cloudy again. I just looked at it last night and it was as clear as it was the first time i mixed it. Went in at about 11 today and I can barley see the pumps. It doesnt smell like ass this time tho, just cloudy.

So I dont know what else to do but hand feed them all or set up drip.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Im going to dump res right now and hand feed for now. Sucks

whats your res temps? Sometimes if your water it too hot there is just no defending against the slime.

things ive noticed for smelly res is always lack of oxygen. other factors can be hot res, too much sugar additives at once, enzymes and too much organic matter and over feeding/waterings. i would buy a bigger pump to circulate the res 24hrs a day and add 2ml/litre of 35% hydrogen peroxide every 28 hours. oh, and make sure its 100% light proof. good luck, d

oh, make sure all your nutes are stored in a cool, dark area. alot of nutes sitting alone in brighter light and or heat can form their own bacteria in the jug then when added to the res explode. i never go over 35% organic matter in my res. use a "bomb" mehod for any powders, slimey nutes etc. place in res in a coffe filter tea bag or run liquid nutes through a coffe filter, always mix nutes seperatly, use new filters for every different apllication, d

I don't have any real good ideas. It just seems that if it is an organism that's growing in your res...well it was also in the rootzone of your plants from the very beginning and so res changes wouldn't help since the solution would immediately be exposed to the rootzone first time they flooded.

Read the coco bag and see if there was any extras added that might be an explanation. Micorhizzals...anything.

Set up a small res/bucket and pump the nutrients up to the plants using 1/4" lines...a top drip system. Then your main res can be a huge collection bucket that will need emptying occasionally.

In short...convert it to a top drip run-to-waste system which is better for coco anyway.

Thanks alot for stopping by!! Im probably going to set up the top drip like you said. Im thinking the same, its just some kind of bacteria that im not finding/killing. Probably in the rootzone.

Ill have some pics up soon of the waterfarms. Ive been mad busy as you can tell. lol

If your temps are 70ish, then i would go with dmt's suggestion then and try to increase the disolved oxygen content in your res.
