Closet Veg Room Question

Let's say that I am going to set up a closet grow with the bottom 2/3rds or so set aside for flowering and the top 1/3rd for a mother and clones. The total space is about 100ft^3

Heat and ventilation will not be problems, even given the small spaces involved, and security is not an issue either. I just don't have any other spare room other than this closet right now.

My question involves veg room lighting. From what I gather MH is good for veg, but I am thinking of going compact fluorescent instead, mainly to cut down on costs.

I have a nice 600W sodium for the flower room, but I don't know whether I should bite the bullet and spring for the MH or just use a floro. Are the results with a MH really enough to justify the outlay?

If I do go with floros, which type should I use and how many? If I do go with a MH can anyone recommend a good low-profile hood? I don't have too much room to spare for a big hood, so any pointers would be appreciated.

If space is an issue, I would suggest going with the fluoro's, either CFL's or T12, T5 etc. I have a T5 and I love it. I also have an MH for veg and there is a significant difference between the two (growth rate, footprint etc.) but not extreme IMO.

How much headspace will you have for the veg room? The hoods on HID's take up alot of room.

Best of luck

i would go with cfl's or flouros for your moms, clones, and veg. moms and clones don't need as much light generrally and your plants spend a lot less time in veg than they do it flower also with cfls and flouros the bulb surfaces run cooler so you have less risk of fire or plant damage, generally.

I say if you have the 600 use it. A conversion bulb, or a full spectrum one from hidhut might be a good option.

The 600 is for the flower room.

It all depends on how much room you got. If you planning on getting a bigger spacesoon, it might be better to just get the MH right away, rather than spending money on CFL's that you may not use once you move up.

I probably will have about three feet of height when all is said and done.

I am leaning towards getting the MH, but the hood is an issue. Are there any good low profile hoods? I don't need to spread the light around too much because the area will be fairly small and totally covered with mylar.

maybe just go with a cheapo wing or parabolic hood then, as both would take up a little less space than a standard hood. Either that or just go bare bulb :moon:, the mylar should be good enough to reflect enough of the light where it is needed.
