Closet - Platinum p450

Hey guys, thanks for the forum! I wanted to document my first grow. I'm using a platinum p450 in my closet. The closet is big enough for more lights but having some storage space is nice.

I started out with some random seeds placed on a wet towel for a few days. Then gently placed them into some small pots. This is what I'm going to call a test run. I have some better higher grade seeds on their way. Let's see how these turn out!

Seeds placed on wet paper towel - 25 June 2016
Seeds sprouted and were placed in small pots - 28 June 2016
Small pots introduced to p450 light at 24" - 01 July 2016

I also have these products to help during the process:

Dyna-Gro DYFOL008 Foliage Pro, 11 Oz/ 8 Fl Oz
Dyna-Gro Bloom BLM-032 3-12-6 Plant Food, 1-Quart

Hydrofarm TM01715D 7-Day Digital Program Timer
AcuRite 00613A1 Indoor Humidity Monitor

The directions on the Dyna-Gro Foilage says 1/4 tsp. per gallon. Is that accurate or should I decrease that amount? How much of the mixture and how often should the babies be watered? I have read once the dirt starts to get somewhat dry then water?

Should I do 24hr light or 18/6?

Some pictures to tickle your fancy...

I was reading an article somewhere that suggested a mixture that is equal in part; peat moss, perlite, verm. After purchasing those three, I mixed the mixture up and added some water. The thing is, Would I be okay with only using the Dyna-Gro Foilage during veg stage or do I need other things? Please help!

I did some remodeling in the closet. The closet now has room for a 3x3 or a 2x4 tent. My max height is going to be 80" before hitting the top shelf in the closet. A view from outside of the closet looking straight in. Those are 5gal potting containers fulled with the peat, perlite, verm mixture.

A little more zoomed in look on how things are going.

Now from the above picture. What is the ideal amount of pots to have for that p450 and say 3x3ft?

I'm still looking at tents. It would help more with temperature control as I'd be able to let me closet door stay open which would help lower the temps. It reached in the 90s in the closet today.

I've been reading about main-lineing, LST, SCROG.. Maybe try a different technique on each plant. As these are just bag seeds and a first run with the light.

Please your help and support will be appreciated!

Less is better for little ones....watering and nutes IMHO.

In this fairly open air closet space I have 2 fans.
One up top on the light fixture and one ground level creating ample air flow.
They get minimal water every 3-4 days.

Below are my babies under a T5.
I've got better veg growth from T5's vs LED.
The tallest is a feminized Orka from BlimBurn and the others REG mix I got for free.

Temperature regulation (70-80) is imperative if possible.
Hope it helps.

Well today, I visited a local hydroponics store that had a great dude working who had plenty of knowledge. He mentioned that a lot of people in the area are doing 70%coco and 30%perl. I told him about my peat, verm, perl mixture and he said that's different. So I'm not sure if he hasnt ever heard of someone using that mix or what. I told him that I had a test run of some random seeds.

Some things that I want to switch in my setup but not sure. Give me your feedback please.

I am using 5gal pots. Was thinking of switching to 3gal fibrous bag pot things.

After this test run, I was thinking about switching and doing the coco/perl mix for the "real" run using the good seeds. Thoughts?

I brought up deep water and recirculating but he mentioned keeping the water cool and how its just not practical in our neighbor.

He did however almost get me sold on the house & garden line but I ended up doing
Sensi Grow A/B, B-52, Great White Mycorrhizae, and then gave me some General Hydroponics Armor SI that I think has been laying around or they don't sell it enough. Either way it was free.

Question about the great white. Do I need to add molasses later on?

Well guys.. no pictures as it wouldn't be appropriate yet. I think next time I am going to start the seeds in those plugs that are somewhat similiar to rockwool. This gentlemen was telling me he usually starts them in those until roots are X in length/build. Then he'll transplant to his 3gal containers.

Meow....

Monsanto bought General Hydroponics so I wouldn't use it now....even free.
That dude didn't sound very knowledgeable , so I would seek out a different shop.
Make your own mix.....try it out and then dial it in. Get learndid :wahey:
Container size depends on how big you want to get or how good you are at training..I stink.

Looking good i have an old style p450 and its shorter then that one. I should have waitedXD ewc peat and perlite would be good depending on the ewc used. And lava rock would be better aeration:) if you need a good soil mix its in one of my threads somewhere.

Hey! So one of my babies is telling me something... Does anyone know what?
They are lookin healthy besides the wilting of the edge of the leaf.

These bad boys have been soaking up the sun in my gal containers for almost a week now under the p450.

I'll take a swipe at this....:dunno:
Really hard to see with that LED going, but are those the leaves of the plant laying on the soil?
The humidity is way too low should be around at least 50-60% if not higher.
I run temperatures close to that so you're OK.
What light cycle are you running at also? Don't believe you've shared.

I'm runnning the lights at 18/6. Ya, the picture is a bad one. The leaves are a few inches from the soil so its not touching.

lotus, should I use indirect wind?

Should I try to move the lights up a little bit?

Ocilating fans are good but people's opinions vary. I use both.
The stand up towers are my favorite about $30...space permitting.
Put you hand up under the fixture and/or check the manufacturer's recommendations.
I stick my lights approximately 12-16 depending on radiant heat and how the leaves react.

Others can chime in on this next one.....
My plants seems to reach/stretch further with the light source closer.
I veg most with T5s and flower with LEDs.

So that you can help others find out what plant stress you are dealing with...

First go into your camera's setting and reduce the saturation and increase the sharpness.

Second take new photos.

Third post your new photos with the new camera settings.

yeah i wouldnt put the fan right on the plants. point it at the wall. oscilating fans are awesome but when yer short on space most oscilating fans are gonna cause wind burn if they hit the plants at all

A small update. Plants are doing great! It was def a wind burn problem that I had. I changed the positioning of the two fans I use and all seems well.

Ok so now, I topped the babies 3 days ago. The new leaves are looking weird. They don't look like regular MJ leaves. maybe give it some time for them to develop?

Other than that. It's been a few days since they got any water/nut's. How often should I give them straight water to flush the salts?

So I accidentally turned my light switch off last night. That switch controls the timer. My babies went about 12 hours in the dark. When I woke up and checked on them today, the smaller leaves on the main nodes are starting to turn light green. It was time for their feeding so I fed them and I hope I didnt make them think they are supposed to be flowering now. Other than that, they are lookin good. I'll get some pics up soon.
