Cloning with Molasses

nope, never tried it. Why? Did it work for you?

Just thought of it so never tried it. Searches turned up nothing, so just wondering if anyone has tried it. It'll be a minute before I can try it and actually do an objective A-B comparo.

Ive used it to flush my plants before a harvest. Why do you think it would work? Is there something in molasses that promotes root growth?

If you mix a little molasses with some water, I think you'll find that it raises the pH pretty significantly. Personally, I've found that a pH of around 5.5 works best for cloning, so that factor alone might rule out using molasses.

...but, if you're going to do a side-by-side, it would be interesting to know the results.

BTW - I use "Green Light Rooting Hormone" - available at Lowe's for US$4.95. It works great!

My buddy uses the same hormone from Lowe's Pharma. It does work great, he has given me many clones produced with that hormone. I just gifted my buddy some of my Old School Thai Haze X Skunk 1 freebies I got from Gypsy. Hope he finds a great mother plant so I can have some clones.

Yes, I have used Root Tech Gel for years and use the powdered stuff as well......was just curious about molasses.

cloning powder is a HORMONE suspended in a medium of talc powder

molasses would NOT help the clones, growth would NOT be promoted because that particular rooting hormone was not present...
probably more of a hindrance than a fruitful* possibility

good thinking tho

I use a bubble cloner...100% success rate...Plain tap water

No expensive hormones or any of that crap...Not needed in my experience

I don't think the sites where the roots normally come out would have a chance. I use Molasses to bind tops that I've partially ripped off.

The reason why I don't think it would work is:

the plants typically have a few day healing period (the lower growth trys to take over during that time which is neat) and then they keep rambling on. The thing is, the plant does not actually heal for weeks. The molasses keeps the stem fixed, and allows the still attached part to clot, growing around, through the molasses on the other hand takes a while. I think your cuts would die before they laid roots.

Then again i've never tried it, so what do I know.

Wait...What?

find a willow tree, break off a branch, and put the broken end into a glass of water. use that water as your rooting hormone.

I use spit. Saliva.

I put each cutting under my tongue for 30 seconds like taking a temperature with the thermometer.

The enzymes in your spit work just as well.

I have used gels and rooting powders but no more.

PS .... don't be drinking beer when cloning. I did a test run of clones when I was pretty drunk and wanted to see if the beer mixed with the spit would hurt the cloning process....it did. Most died. Oh well.

what about having a bubbler cloner with a wee bit of molasses in it?? would that be a bad thing ??
may gum up the air stones and with a clone bubbler cant have that :) i use clonex gel and my DYI 15 site bubbler some times i give it my veg nute regiment some times just plain ole water. i ph my water to 6.5 and get 99-100% sucess rate everything roots and is in soil w/in 3 wks of being cut. some do root faster then others i have many different strains running currently.

Feel a cloner with warm sugary aerated water would be an ideal environment for yeasts/moulds/fungi and end up like a bucket of home brewed beer.

Find plain water takes three or four days and clonex speeds things up a little but barely worth it and no difference at a week.
